Letters from Baghdad This story is told in the words of Gertrude Bell - sometimes called the female "Lawrence of Arabia." Bell was an explorer, spy, archaeologist and diplomat who helped shape the Middle East after World War I. Advisor to Winston Churchill and critic of colonial policies in Iraq, Bell was considered the most powerful woman in the British Empire. The film takes us into a past that is eerily current.

This was an excellent program. Gertrude Bell lived an interesting life, and seemed genuinely enthusiastic about the region, met T.E. Lawrence, I believe, and was trying to help, politically, some of the various peoples of the area prepare and be more ready to take on things such as the advent of WW1(I havent watched this in several years...).
