Twenty-five years ago, filmmaker Colin Stafford-Johnson travelled to Sulawesi in Indonesia and fell in love with crested black macaques. Teaming up with a local expert and making a film about them and their plight allows him to share their story with the local schools and communities in the hope that a new understanding of the wonderful creatures in their midst will make them want to help, as well.
There's a magical rainforest in Indonesia that's home to Tarzan… Samson… Uhura… and everyone's favorite, Peanut. These charming little characters are crested black macaques, feisty beach bum monkeys with punk hairstyles, expressive faces, and copper-colored eyes who first enchanted filmmaker Colin Stafford-Johnson twenty-five years ago during a trip he made to Sulawesi. After learning that their numbers have dropped dramatically since that time, he makes a return visit to find out why and to see if he can help. He teams up with a local expert to learn more about them and their plight and proceeds to fall in love all over again. In the end, he decides to make a film that will allow him to share their story with the local schools and communities in the hope that a new understanding of the wonderful creatures in their midst will make them want to help, as well.
