Through the ages, artists have utilized an array of tools and materials, from Paleolithic mineral pigments to the latest digital technologies. Examples of artists' tools in The Met collection include an ancient Egyptian paint box, brushes from the Qing dynasty, and a paint-spattered 19th century palette. Images of art-making implements can also be found in the Museum, as well as depictions of artists using such tools in the act of creation.
