In 1989, five black and Latino teenagers from Harlem were arrested and later convicted of raping a white woman in New York City's Central Park. They spent between 6 and 13 years in prison before a serial rapist confessed that he alone had committed the crime, leading to their convictions being overturned. Set against a backdrop of a decaying city beset by violence and racial tension, The Central Park Five tells the story of that horrific crime, the rush to judgment by the police, a media clamoring for sensational stories and an outraged public, and the five lives upended by this miscarriage of justice.

I first would like to say, none of this would be possible without Channel 11. The quality of their work speaks for itself. I am not on social media platforms, but everyone should focus on having a subscription to Channel 11. Try it you will not be disappointed and I am extremely happy with my purchases.

A 24 YEAR DIFFERENCE MIGHT HAVE HELPED
Review by Dorrie R. on 11/07/20 review stating A 24 YEAR DIFFERENCE MIGHT HAVE HELPED
I was riveted to this DVD and will watch it again and again. Where was the ACLU or wasnt it in full swing back then? Protests could have helped and the NAACP could have done more. Those boys never got the chance to see a lawyer right away and were coerced into taking the blame. We have come a long way but we still have a long way to go.

Another superb documentary by Ken Burns
Review by L L. on 07/17/20 review stating Another superb documentary by Ken Burns
If you like the Ken Burns style of documentaries, then this is for you. This documentary does not have the usual long narrations of his other documentaries, instead, Burns allows the five men involved to tell their story. But Burns hand is there guiding the telling of it, not allowing it to go off track, keeping the men on point. It will hold your attention throughout.

WHY INNOCENTS CONFESS
Review by Chip L. on 07/17/20 review stating WHY INNOCENTS CONFESS
Based in part on his daughters book, it captures the publics sentiments. What is not readily revealed is why do innocent people confes ? This is a case study of documented innocnet people whom gave false confessions. The speed, pace and story line is well done. As a criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor it does a good job of explaining some of the legal issues to the public.

Review by Tonyc on 07/17/20 review stating great documentary
This is a bit unusual for the Ken Burns team ..Usually we see National Parks, Jazz,Civil War...seen them all ..but this is an ongoing battle, still in the NYC courts for these 5 men ..I read that there was an injunction to stop the showing, so I immediately bought it as soon as I could.. Its amazing reporting

I enjoy everything Ken Burns puts out, but I was particularly impressed by The Central Park Five. I clearly remember reading about this tragedy in the local newspaper, but was unaware of many of the details until they were brought out in the documentary. Every moment was fascinating.
