Ducks are true originals. They waddle, glide, dive, and dabble, and their feathers shimmer with dazzling hues, brilliant iridescence, and come in every color of the rainbow. There are more than 120 different species of ducks in all, a fantastical group of complex characters with names to match - Buffleheads, Canvasbacks, Pintails, Shovelers, Widgeons, and Woodies.

Ducks are born knowing how to survive - how to swim, what to eat, how to find it, and where to fly in the winter. They must make it through a gauntlet of hungry predators, just waiting for a tasty little duckling to swim by. Even when grown, most ducks are still small enough to be vulnerable, but in the end, ducks have a talent for survival, and life stories filled with personality and charm.

Excellent documentary!

Im a birder! My husband and I loved the photography and the narrated story of all the ducks and their life stories! Its an excellent DVD Ill treasure!

LOVED it!!

This was such an enjoyable film! Everyone in my family, from age 5 to age 58, loved it! The cinematography is stunning and the information presented was truly fascinating. If you are a nature lover or a bird lover this is such an enjoyable hour. Weve already watched it multiple times. Thanks, PBS, for making such wonderful nature shows!

Wonderful story of this Owl!

We are birders. Owls are one of our favorites. This really shows the life style of the Snowy Owl. We purchased this so we can watch it more times!

Not that great

Kind of boring. Need more examples, more animals. Too much time with not very interesting speakers. Hint: comb your hair, youre on camera. Would not buy this again. OK to borrow from library though. I expect a better quality of production from PBS. It has the look of something (anything?) rushed to production.

FASCINATING LOOK AT THE WHITE STALLIONS

This is a fascinating look into the origin, history, life, training, and perpetuation of this magnificent species of stallions. I love all animals, but am not necessarily a horse freak, but I truly loved this video and it showed me a lot of surprising info about these animals. Well worth the price and well worth watching

Who says that animals cant show love ?

This video reminds me of when I was a young kid with a pet white rat. Our family dog hated the field rats that were around and would kill them on sight. With her, he wasnt aggressive in the least. He was more curious and playful.

Heartwarming and Affirming

Wonderful science

Temple Grandin and Marc Beckoff are terrific. Interesting monkey researcher, too. But, be warned, the description in the paper catalog says the animal couples include my favorites - tortoise/hippo, chimp/tiger and the crow/meerkat friends. They are not included in this dvd. Is there a part 2?

Animal Odd Couples

What a delightful and inspiring film about different animal species adopting and bonding to a species unlike themselves. I ordered 4 of these dvds to give to young children as Christmas gifts. The compassion and caring these animals exhibit to each other is astounding. That these stories are caught on film for the world to see is a step in the right direction for mankind. Humans take to heart the stories of these amazing sentient beings, we all have a lot to learn from them.

Wonderful Show

I happened to be flipping channels last night and saw the preview for Nature: Animal Odd Couples and it was something I was interested in so I watched it. It was so informative and emotional for any animal lover. I found myself connecting with the animals and feeling for them. There were couples most would never think of. It really gives a different story than most would expect. I instantly wanted to find out if I could get it on DVD. Sure enough here it is! I will be buying it today. Check it out!!

As an elementary school librarian and natural scientist, I found this program to be an ideal source of information for kids and teachers alike. I am purchasing the DVD for my private collection. I will use it to expand study of Robert McCloskys Caldecott Award winning book Make Way For Ducklings. What a charming presentation of serious science!
