The Story of China with Michael Wood The Story of China, written and presented by historian Michael Wood, explores the history of the world's oldest continuous state, from the ancient past to the present day.Home to over a billion people, China is the new super power, a country we all want to understand now, and Wood argues that to do so we have to look at its history. Traveling across the country he explores the landscapes, peoples, stories, and cultures that have helped create China's distinctive character and genius over more than four thousand years. Wood meets people from all walks of life, explores ancient cities, and traces some of the great moments in Chinese history - from their extraordinary voyages of exploration, to amazing scientific inventions.

A grand sweep narrative, full of big ideas and unexpected surprises, the series shows how the Chinese created their own distinctive vision of the world: a vision that is still alive in the 21st century and indeed, Wood argues, is the real motor behind the incredible and growing success of China today.

Disappointed [?]

A poorly constructed presentation. I expected to see and hear the story/history of China, NOT a constant video of Michael Wood touring China with historical reminiscing.

Interesting and wild trip through the history of an intriguing country. Kept us wanting to know more and kept giving us a great story. Tied the past to the present in a natural way, giving reasons why China got to be where it is now. Marvelous presentation!

It's just pure information about the history of a country without political implications. I'm seeing it again for the second time and I expect to see it again for the third time after this. Thank you Michael Woods. Great job!!

Masterful presentation - entire history of China
Review by Tom S. on 05/16/21 review stating Masterful presentation - entire history of China
Yes, from the Bronze age through the present, the entire history of this enormous part of our world is covered by the inimitable Michael Wood. He does not overwhelm us with the minutia but manages to convey the essence of the amazing highs and the horrific lows of China by focusing on the human dimensions of each. I would love to see this as the basis for a high school course since China is certain to be the most dynamic force in the world for the next generations.
