A Fantastic History Lesson!
Review by Melody on 07/17/20 review stating A Fantastic History Lesson!
Recently, (July 2009) my family and I traveled to Bedford, Pa. for a visit to see family friends. I used to live in Bedford. Ive traveled that portion of the Lincoln Highway many times. Used to see the old Coffee Pot weekly, and found out last week that they moved it across the street to in front of the fairgrounds! This trip, we traveled to the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pa., just off the old Lincoln. I had a travelers guide from the hotel and it had a driving tour of the Lincoln Route in it. I was reading to the kids and we laughed and had a wonderful trip. We stopped at the Summit where the Ship Hotel used to be! I was so sad to see it was gone. We took pictures anyway and the trip became a part of my childrens history now. Watching the show on TV tonight brought back fun memories and I am going to buy the DVD to keep in the family. The show is magnificent and will be part of my family for years to come! Excellent!! Thanks for making it! We want to travel the Lincoln further now!

Lincoln Hwy Fever - Im going within day
Review by Nobarbie on 07/17/20 review stating Lincoln Hwy Fever - Im going within day
I saw the PBS tv cast and then explored the library for more information. I just purchased my own copy from the PBS store. I am going to York, PA to see the Harley plant on March 2009. The Lincoln Hwy is there so how can I not travel on it? The DVD was fantastic and brought out an excitement to travel and see some of the route. Later, in the summer, I will travel more of it by motorcycle. I got the fever, Im thinkin, for the Lincoln. Thanks PBS!

A Ride Through My Own Childhood
Review by Todd B. on 07/17/20 review stating A Ride Through My Own Childhood
I grew up along Highway 30 in Nebraska just a few miles from one of the original Lincoln Highway markers and I always make a point to drive that route whenever Im back in my home state. Rick Sebaks documentary is a wonderful look into Americas first transcontinental highway and its significance in connecting east to west and all points in between. I highly recommend this show as both a factual program and a glimpse into the dreams made true by the evolution from dirt to concrete of Americas roads.

Missing Music
Review by Arnie on 07/17/20 review stating Missing Music
Dear PBS: I watched A Ride Along The Lincoln Highway on KCET last night, and loved the program. However the producers missed the boat (or is it bus?) in not including the theme song from Lincoln Highway, a radio program that I listened to on NBC every Saturday morning when I was a Kid growing up in D.C. in the 30s. Each week it presented fictional stories about people traveling the highway, and each week the program commenced with a baritone singer by the name of Frank Forest singing: Hi there neighbor Goin my way East or West On the Lincoln Highway? Hey there Yankee, Give out with a great big thank-ee; Youre in Gods Country. It was a song from a Broadway show of the time caled Babes In Arms, by Harold Arlen. I eagerly looked forward to that show every week. Thank you for the great programming. Arnold Silverman Laguna Niguel, CA (949) 643-5534

Home!

Fort Bridger Wyoming. Shows the old motel, cabins where our family lived in the 1950s. We had no running water, double mens, womens out house. My dad, who owned a local garage/hotel with his brother, used to travel west over the three sisters highway with a wrecker built from a Chevy truck, to pull trucks and motorists back on the highway and up the hills in the winter. I attended a one room school in the third and forth grades. What memories! Allen Eastman

A Fun Historica Adventure
Review by Bagman B. on 07/17/20 review stating A Fun Historica Adventure
I was curious about this DVD since I had read about part of it this highway which is also part of of Route 30 in west of Kane County Illinois, and saw it on another on PBS show where a man drives on it while telling the history of the area. It said in the article which I was reforign to that it was the firs section to be paved over there. I had been a in Frankfurt Illinois which boy scouts also helped put up signs on that section too. It is nice to see other parts it and the buildings and landscape, and places. It is also nice to see the groups and even a man who was one of the boy scouts in which one of the group memmbers looked up that are remembering it qne going on some of the older sections. I would not mind going with them to see that like I did I went on a walking and bicycling path that used to have rail road tracks. I would feel the sense of aventure like they did. It is intersting that part of it was a walking path for Native Americans and a wagon path and the other historical sections of it. It was nice to see those sites on DVD though. I had never heard sung about it before unlike Route 66 until now which is probably was more widely known I read that roads were first paved for bicycles on a web site about them. At least this time no reference was made about the Army coming up with idea of paving roads which was not the first time a road was paved which I read on that web site for bicycle riders. Some parts of 66 were made in I also like how Rick Sebak narrates this and I never knew there was a book written about it unlike Route 66 when highways started to have numbers. Someone should have one about 14 and 12 and some state and county routes Maybe there were, but I just do not know about it. It has been fun watching this and it is nice there is a speacial feature. I do like that this in wide screen and I wonder if there is a version tha is not. At least I have a wide screen laptop where I can watch it on though.

Review by J L. on 07/17/20 review stating Excellent and Interesting Show
This is an incredibly interesting documentary of the highway that goes from coast to coast - Highway 30. The history is fascinating and this video brings it to life. I have always known about Rt. 66 but never heard of the Lincoln Highway. And I grew up in CO and traveled WY a lot. Very eye opening. It is so sad too to see much of history along this road going by the wayside.

Mom had bought and loved and given away this film. Soon after she moved in with us she began talking about it -alot! (WE didnt let on wed actually travelled segments of the Lincoln Hwy!) But it was obvious that it would make an ideal Christmas present and so it was. She was delighted to share something that even my husband enjoyed. It brought back memories of great trips across country on several occasions -both with my folks when I was a teen and with my husband and kids. Thanks for a well documented and fun production.
