Fantastic!
Review by In D. on 07/17/20 review stating Fantastic!
I watched this on PBS and it was fantastic! It played over a the course of a week and I was glued to my seat every night -- I cant say that about many programs. It was amazing how much information they were able to find. Henry Louis Gates Jr is a wonderful host/narrator. You dont have to be of African decent to enjoy and appreciate this program.

A must have.
Review by Pam on 07/17/20 review stating A must have.
This DVD as well as Part 1 are two DVDs that I watch over and over. Each time you hear and learn something you didnt catch before. It is a must have for anyone researching their ancestry. It inspires you to keep searching even when you think you have hit a brick wall. It is also a great show for anyone just wanting to know more about history, white or black.

The dialogue helped to create a timeline that fused history with present day people of note.

the orphaned in the American Experience...what roots?

5 stars to those who want to know from whence we came...many will never know...those baby boomers who were fathered by passing sailors and lonely women will never know without help. Could todays DNA give us information about the missing parents bloodline, the very blood which runs thru our veins today?

Empowering, And Intriguing.
Review by Bagman B. on 07/17/20 review stating Empowering, And Intriguing.
It is nice that they found out about their roots and I felt for them. I also liked they had a DNA test and even the Haplo group one. I was happy to see this was what I had seen on tv and never even knew there were two African American Lives. I had never seen part I and missed most of part II and none of Faces Of America. So, it was great that I found this DVD set which I am happy to see again again and again.

I missed it on PBS 10, and a friend told me about it. I invited my friend over to watch it on my DVDs and he said it was fantastic! He says there was more content on the DVDs than on the TV program. Thanks!

I could only imagine what it must be like to finally know where your ancestors were and came from. (Excuse the bad grammar please.) Having done my own work for so long and realizing the excitement, I was so happy that these people learned their history too.

The African American Lives series inspired me to explorer more deeply into my roots. I waited too late to ask my parents about our expended family that continued to live in the South. I am the oldest member of my family, but there is so much I do not know about our family history. The African American Lives series inspired me to document my unique knowledge before it is lost forever. Furthermore, I had my maternal and paternal DNA samples researched. Now, I am working to identify my specific African ancestry. Thank to both Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and PBS for producing such a fine program.
