Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the concert that became a touchstone for a generation. This film brings the three-day concert to life through the voices of those who were present at what became the defining moment of the counterculture revolution.

American Experience: Woodstock: Three Days That Defined A Generation In August 1969, nearly half a million people gathered at a farm in upstate New York to hear music. What happened over the next three days, however, was far more than a concert. It would become a legendary event, one that would define a generation and mark the end of one of the most turbulent decades in modern history. Occurring just weeks after an American set foot on the moon, the Woodstock music festival took place against a backdrop of a nation in conflict over sexual politics, civil rights and the Vietnam War. A sense of an America in transition - a handoff of the country between generations with far different values and ideals - was tangibly present at what promoters billed as "An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace and Music."

Woodstock turns the lens back at the audience, at the swarming, impromptu city that grew up overnight on a few acres of farm land. What took place in that teaming mass of humanity - the rain-soaked, starving, tripping, half-a-million strong throng of young people - was nothing less than a miracle of teamwork, a manifestation of the "peace and love" the festival had touted and a validation of the counter-culture’s promise to the world. Who were these kids? What experiences and stories did they carry with them to Bethel, New York that weekend, and how were they changed by three days in the muck and mire of Yasgur’s farm?

Outstanding Presentation

When I look at the way things are in the world today, it is refreshing to look back when people were civil, caring and kind to each other if for only 3 days. I often hope for a Time Machine to go back and spend time ( 1969 ) there again. I was to young, 12 at the time and consider myself in the Just Missed it group. I did however make it to the Watkins Glen weekend in July 1973. What a long strange, but great trip that was! This production triggered many emotions for me, Im sure it will for you as well. I really want this American Experience : Woodstock Three Days... video to be available to purchase in Blu-Ray. I do not buy newer product in inferior and outdated DVD format. Even better would be 4K. Could we think year 2020 and not the turn of the century, folks? Summer of Love also on Blu-Ray. Thanks, and I really hope you do it! Paul Adams, Hi-Def consumer.

Woodstock August 15-18, 1969

This is a great DVD ! It tells a really good story of the guys who put together Woodstock, and several fans point of view. It is really great to hear about the community around the event at the time, and the adversity the promoters overcame to pull this off. It also talks about all the things that were happening at the event... not just the music on stage.

Review by Clarke on 01/20/22 review stating Amazing report of the evolution of this concert!
Interesting account of how this concert evolved from a small idea to being virtually an iconic legendary effort to preserve the music scene of the time! Originally conceived as small concert it mushroomed Io an event attracting over 500,000!! Must be seen to be believed.
