Raul Julia
Review by Carol G. on 09/29/22 review stating Raul Julia
Mr.Julia was larger than life, capturing each character he portrayed in his unique style. He researched is roles to bring his presentation to perfection. Before appearing in Kiss Of The Spider Woman, where he was cast as a revolutionary, he went in person to meet with revolutionaries to hear of their strong focus on their mission. He deliberately lost over 30 pounds to appear like his character who had been imprisoned , beaten, and poorly fed. Coming to America in 1964, he had to prove that someone with an accent could play any role. He fought to not be type case only in Latino roles. He spoke of diversity. He loved Shakespeare, and was part of the New York Shakespearean Festival. He appeared in New York street festivals, performing in both English and Spanish, taking theater to people who could not afford to attend on Broadway. He was a humanitarian , actively supporting and promoting The Hunger Project. He seems to be best known for his role as Gomez Addams in The Addams Family, even though he performed for decades on both stage and screen. This documentary captures his spectacular story.

Raul Julia lived a bigger than life, life! You must see it to understand what I am saying. I sent this DVD to my Mom sister as they both love the theatre and Raul Julia was a master of true feeling in the parts that he played.

I grew up in the 1990s watching alot of Mr. Julias films. I knew he was an amazing actor, but I didnt know much more about him other than he seemed like an amazing human being. It seems I was right. After watching this documentary I learned that he was not only an amazing person and actor, but he was so much more. Thank you PBS! Great job!
