I bought the DVD just so I could watch Sex land his jet on that pitching deck,....over and over and over. It was mighty pretty! Sure would like to know EXACTLY how he earned that handle?

I DVRd it, now Im going to buy it. Carrier takes a frank look at the young crew of our ultimate Big Stick ambassador to the world, from the military and human sides. Seeing the ups and downs, the little slices inside the big picture, is really something both surprising and inspiring. It is not a PR piece for the Navy - this series features warts and all. But thats part of the inspiration - these young servicepersons have real freedom of speech. Also one of the best paced and edited works Ive seen. And I care about these things.

I was stationed on a carrier and I was really excited to finally show my family what life was like with this dvd. My only question is why is this not on Blu-Ray? Why, why, why, why, why?

UNDERSTAND YOUR TROOPS...
Review by Snapper T. on 07/17/20 review stating UNDERSTAND YOUR TROOPS...
My name is mary apper and I am a Second Class, Damage Control Petty Officer in the United States Navy. I myself am stationed on a small Boy, a DDG (Guided Missile Distroyer) that has a crew of about 350 sailors. I just finished the Carrier 3 pack and was EXTREAMLY impressed with the way Navy life was shown to all those we protect back at home. I am so glad that a REALISTIC view was shown of what we go through for months at a time. I love my job in the Navy and could not see myself doing anything else. I hope this show brings entertainment coupled with edjucation on the military life and those GREAT men and women I am blessed and proud to serve with. JOB WELL DONE!!!! ps. maybe in the future you can do a season on a DDG!!! We have some good stories;) DC2 APPER

Review by Melody B. on 07/17/20 review stating LOVED IT!!
I loved this series. I have watched it many times and it has brought back many memories I had as a military brat of a Naval father who spent 20 plus years of his life serving this country. I wish everyone could see this series to know what a incredible job our military does for the United States of America!

Are there plans to release this on Blu-Ray? I think it was broadcast in HD, so the source material should be available.

Great Show
Review by Go M. on 07/17/20 review stating Great Show
I have just finished watching the entire 10 hours on DVD after having seen a few episodes on PBS when the series aired earlier this year. All I can say wow and big THANK YOU to all those who serve and their families. This show really opened my eyes to all of the selfless sacrifices made by those who serve and by their families as well. My appreciation and gratitude to you has grown immensely. I have to also add that the music selected to accompany the series was outstanding. My favoriate is James Blunts Cry as the Nimitz returns to San Diego. I tear up each and every time I watch that scene and hear that song. This series in definitely on my Christmas list. Thank you for educating us all.

Perfect blend of high drama fact. Transparency reality it is a movie...except its real. The program shows that the Navy and Carrier consists of people and people make the Navy work. Young and capable men and women make the ship work, the equipment work, make the Navy work. I wish a soundtrack were available.

Yah! I would like to see some more of the interviews they had. My son was one of them that was aboard the Nimitz during the deployment. I did really enjoy it. I got to see some stuff that he does. I couldnt wait for it to come out. Then hubby grabbed from me to watch it. When is the 2nd part of it coming out? I be the first in line to get it.

Loved these films. Great insight on life onboard views of the ship and its crew, also great memories to share and watch with my dad who assisted with its building and spent much time on board in the late 70s-until 1977 before I was born. Purchased it for him for Fathers Day!

Carrier
Review by Abby on 07/17/20 review stating Carrier
Wow, what a show. I do plan on purchasing this DVD. I am a retired USN Chief. What was shown is true life and what almost every sailor experiences while at sea. Levels of how are we really helping this war, or other countries, protecting our country etc. It is amazing how the younger sailors dont understand or arent told the whys and such. Once sailors advance to a higher paygrade the bigger picture starts coming together. I was a single parent on my first deployment and leaving my daughter was the toughest thing I have ever done. Midway through the deployment I realized that this was great for her and my brother sister in law. They kept her for me. Once we returned I was so afraid that she would not remember me, much less come to me. Well, she jumped out of my sister in laws arms into mine and the rest is history. Your show was as true to life as it gets. Amphibous Ready Groups (ARGs), with Marines would be an awesome show as well. It shows how great the Blue (Navy) and Green (Marines) teams work together as one to accomplish successful deployments. I am sure you could do one on each type of battle group etc, and get several different story lines. Good for the public to see what really goes on. Thanks for doing a great job. Review by Cpl M. on 07/17/20 review stating Comments from a Marine
Havent purchased the DVD yet, so my comments are based on the TV presentation. I expected more technical information, however, I was very pleased at the program presentation. I especially liked the landing of the F/A-18s on the tossing deck episode. The last episode where the family gets to be with their loved ones from Hawaii to SD is good too. Semper Fi to all who have earned it.

After seeing the series on san diego naval base and also seeing the series on ddg 91 coming back from rempac i feel in love with the dvd and will show this video to the seamen who have never been out to sea. This series helped me with motivation to get through the days out to sea for the first time this year 2008. im a boatswains mate seaman apprentice and have been in the navy for a year and would love to show my parents what life on a ship is like. Thank you for a great job and hope for filming on my (Brand new ship STOCKDALE DDG 106)we are a great ship that has many sailors sailing for the first time in their life and getting used to being on the ship.

Gritty and unbiased
Review by Darkfire review stating Gritty and unbiased
Rarely do you find anything that covers a reality type show concerning the military without some kind of bias. But it appears that the producers of Carrier tried to keep it as unbiased as possible. The crew members and commanders gave both sides of the story in a gritty look at life aboard the carrier, USS Nimitz. I have 2 sons in the Navy and as of this writing, they are deployed for 8 months aboard the carrier USS Harry S. Truman. Because of these DVDs, I have a new found respect and understanding of what my sons are going through. God Bless America and the fine men and women that serve their country to keep us safe.
