E.O. Wilson - Of Ants and Men chronicles the famed biologist lifelong love for the natural world and his groundbreaking research. His work with ants led to his remarkable studies of advanced social behavior in both ants and humans alike, and the controversial foundation of sociobiology. His work in the Gorongosa National Park brings together the great themes of his life and work: nature and humanity's place in it.

E.O. Wilson - Of Ants and Men

Beginning with his unusual childhood in Alabama, E.O. Wilson - Of Ants and Men chronicles the famed biologist and Pulitzer Prize-winning author's lifelong love for the natural world and the groundbreaking research that would establish him as the foremost authority on ants. Wilson's work on ant communication led him to his remarkable studies of advanced social behavior throughout the animal world, and when his studies turned to human behavior, the new and controversial discipline of sociobiology was founded, creating an uproar in the scientific community. Hardly had that controversy died down when he was embroiled in yet another fierce debate about the theory of evolution, which has brought him into conflict with biologists who fiercely oppose his theory of ""group selection.""

But above and beyond these scientific debates lies Wilson's abiding passion for the natural world and its conservation. E.O. Wilson - Of Ants and Men culminates with his work in the great National Park of Mozambique, Gorongosa, which brings together the great themes of his life and work: nature and humanity's place in it.

Beautifully produced and lovingly told by one of the most important scientists and conservationists of our time. Touted as the Father of Biodiversity and Sociobiology, Wilson gives us remarkable insights into why we are here, how we are interconnected, and why we should care, especially for the earth and all Her creatures--both great a small.(Ill never look at an ant the same way!) Bravo PBS and E.O. Wilson!

Truly the most extraordinary loving compassionate brilliant and exciting film Ive ever seen on PBS. It changed my life and outlook. I feel like I belong and everything makes sense now. God bless the most wonderful Ed Wilson. He has accomplished more to inspire civilization to evolve in a loving and practical way that makes sense. His humor, clarity and gentle strength is a blessing to all who have been given hope by his dedication and kindness. He is the true visionary and prophet of our trembling precious planet. With all my thanks and love, robin on estuary island of Matlacha, Florida.

Good film, although lacking in diverse perspectives
Review by Datafan on 07/17/20 review stating Good film, although lacking in diverse perspectives
The contents, production quality, and message of this film are all great. Very compelling documentary. That said, the one thing that bothered me more and more as I watched it was a lack of diverse perspectives from the speakers in the film. In short, every expert with a speaking role in the film was an older white man. No women were given speaking roles. One black man spoke, but he was a football player - he didnt speak about biodiversity or environmentalism. As the US becomes increasingly majority minority, it is important that we see a diversity of perspectives included in discussions about environmental topics. If biodiversity is seen as the domain of older white men, then we wont have enough interest from the rest of the population to enact the measures we desperately need.
