Another Powerful Frontline Documentary
Review by Arleebb on 07/17/20 review stating Another Powerful Frontline Documentary
I ordered this film to share with a support group for families and friends of people struggling with the disease of opiate addiction. This is an amazing film which explores new models of treatment for people struggling against this consuming disease and it explores how opiate addiction is affecting the whole of society. The model that the city of Seattle is using has cut down on crime in the community and assisted many addicts in moving into effective and life saving treatment. This epidemic refuses to allow anyone to say that they are unaffected by what the CDC is calling an epidemic. I appreciated the information very much and found it helpful. Please continue to create documentaries on the research and treatment of this deadly disease. Families are isolated by stigma and misunderstanding as they search for real help that too often doesnt exist. False and corrupt rehabs rob those who are desperate to find help for their loved ones without truly treating the disease of opiate addiction successfully. I would LOVE to see a documentary about the failure of expensive boutique rehabs to effectively treat opiate addiction: a brain altering, progressive disease with a high relapse rate that kills one in two users. In spring of 2015, a reporter from The Huffington Post wrote an article called Dying To Be Free which explores the failure of traditional 30-90 day abstinence programs as a treatment for patients addicted to opiates. This article actually explores the premise that these types of rehabs may be increasing the death rate of opiate addicts. I would love to see Frontline do a documentary that explores the success/failure rates of varied treatments. I love Frontline and appreciate all you do. Keep up the great work. Thanks again.
