FRONTLINE: Poor Kids FRONTLINE continues its reporting on child poverty in America - revisiting the kids at the heart of the 2012 film, Poor Kids, to see what their lives are like five years later, and offering a powerful, firsthand look at what poverty means to children and the country. Startling and intimate, the film is an indelible portrait of the realities of growing up poor in America, told by children in three families over the course of half a decade. With more than one in six of the nation's children living below the poverty level, the film gives an unforgettable perspective on the impact of unemployment, foreclosure and financial distress through the eyes of the children directly impacted.

This should be required viewing for every elected official and every citizen. It is a pure and simple presentation of the America we have created by our attitudes, prejudices and voting.

Poor kids in america

With all the poverty we have tight here in our own backyard, why on earth do we need to bring in people to our country from other parts of the world while our very own legal citizens are starving living in homeless shelters ? There is also the dreadful threat that many of these illegals are a real danger with their radical ideas as well as some are criminals when no good intentions . There are far too many of these elements here in out society as it is. Bringing more of these people here is absolute suicde to this nation. We should be focusing on weeding out the illegals who are already here and taking better care of our own citizens who need work putting food on their tables.

A poignant documentary
Review by Nickd945 on 12/08/21 review stating A poignant documentary
This is a truly engrossing documentary that chronicles the lives of several impoverished families here in the U.S., told from the perspective of children. As such, it makes for compelling storytelling. I am currently using this documentary with my high school seniors as an anticipatory activity for Barbara Ehrenreichs bestseller, Nickel and Dimed. The students were glued to the screen during the showing; later, it provided a great whole-group discussion. Highly recommended.

Excellent depiction of how poverty affects children in an area that has seen severe economic depression. Well worth an hour of viewing.

Even though you might not agree with the parent choices, you cant deny the fact that so many kids are facing these hardships- right here, right now in our country. Sad!

If you think you have it bad, if you feel sorry for yourself, watch this and know you are better off than you think. Get out of your comfort zone and make a difference for one family. If we all help our poor maybe they will find a path to better days. Reach down and pull someone out of the rutt; you never know when its your turn to fall.
