Follow nature photographer Michael Forsberg as he examines the remaining ""wildness"" in the Great Plains of North America. Featuring stunning imagery, the program is based on Forsberg's book of the same name. Less than 200 years ago, the Great Plains was one of the greatest grassland ecosystems on Earth, stretching nearly a million square miles down the heart of the continent. The prairie was a place of constant motion, shaped by an unforgiving cycle of the seasons. Huge numbers of bison, elk, pronghorn, deer, prairie dogs, prairie wolves and even grizzlies were common. There were massive migrations of birds and fish. But as America grew, and the land was settled and tamed, the wildness began disappearing.

Everyone ignores the Great Plains. Im almost as moved there as when I go to the ocean. The story here covers much of what I love and opened my eyes even more. Mr. Forsbergs photography is spectacular.

A New appreciation of the Plains
Review by Fossil C. on 11/23/20 review stating A New appreciation of the Plains
This DVD shows the bird wildlife which hides in the Prarie Grass. It shows the consequences of reducing the water drainage areas called Playas. It shows the different kinds of rolling terrain and the underground aquafers. Plus it shows the bird migration routes. A lot of diverse info, including the Buffalo heritage and protecting endangered animals.

It is a same to know what we had and lost it. No wonder the Native Americans fought so hard.

This video is artistry at its best! The intention was to capture the beauty and grandure of the (oft-overlooked) Great Plains of North America --- and the video succeeded beyond all expectations. Beautiful photography coupled with excellent narrative! This would make a wonderful, present for anyone who has an affinity for nature and geography.
