Everybody should watch this video and try to put themselves in time and place. Only then, one will realize how amazing this journey really was. Not only from a historic point but also an educational one. They truly were The Corp of Discovery. The video inspired me to read the journals of Lewis and Clark and visit sites along their route.

This was a magnificent DVD. The photography, personal descriptions and interactions and major adventures were superb. I only wish that there had been a little more information at the end about what happened to Sacajaweas (spelling?) children. I would see this video over and over again. A+++++

Sloppy research
Review by Pat S. on 04/23/22 review stating Sloppy research
The Lewis and Clark Expedition neither started nor ended in Saint Louis. That distinction belongs to St. Charles, Missouri, a city in current St. Louis County, but at that time too far away to be considered a suburb of St. Louis. There is scant mention of the French in the area and also of the French boatman -who were natives of the area and NOT Canadians-- who also made the journey. Lewis and Clark are fawned over as exceptional heroes. It is an exercise in typical Anglo-American history based myopia. Dont waste your time or money on this DVD set.

Good documentary but...

When Ken Burns shows you the only remaining evidence of the journey, the inscription on Pompeys Pillar, he shows the inscription mockup that was in the visitors center at that time, not the real thing. I dont know why because the inscription is very clear. Maybe it was a mixup in editing. Look at the J-u portion of July on what he shows compared to the real thing. The only evidence of the expedition still remaining on the trail and he doesnt show it! He shows the imitation.

Please consider more digital options

I really wish you would decide on a reliable digital format for these documentaries. I have bought them in DVD format in the past but as the world moves to digital I dont even own a DVD player anymore. The whole point of these is to be able to learn and watch and rewatch. While I know funding needs makes it very convenient to put them away and pull them back out again, wouldnt it be even better to have a reliable income stream from them? This one has become very rare which is such a shame.

Such a wonderful opportunity to travel back in time as well as across the continent when it was young and new. This product really reflects the strength of character and body needed, as well as the excitement of new discovery and the travail of severe hardships encountered by those who made this trek. To have been amongst them on such a quest!
