Ken Burns: Not for Ourselves Alone: The Story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton & Susan B. Anthony DVD

It is an exceptional documentary, extremely well done. Every young woman, or even teen should see it, to fully understand the tremendous value and power of our vote. And to know how much determination some goals require. A must see for women.

Most women dont know the history and sacrifice behind why we can now vote. Both Mrs. Stanton and Susan B. Anthony worked most of their lives for the right for women to vote. Along the way we earned the right to own property, earn an education by degree and many other accomplishments we now take for granted. This movie made me cry, why? Because as second and third class citizens (youll understand what I mean when you see this movie) it took over 50 years for women to earn the right to vote - Stanton and Anthony gave up most of their personal lives canvassing the U.S.A with speeches so that we can make our mark on history and have some say as to who gets voted into office. I am so grateful that I finally found out where our female voting right roots came from - unfortunately 15+ years after both women had died (and didnt get to reap the rewards themselves), the hard earned rewards arrived for the rest of us. Every woman should see this along with their family and friends and thank our brave, heroic women who gave up so much so that we could get ahead and be part of who we were meant to be . . . United States citizens in full. Thank You Ken Burns! Another great epic film.

Words fail at expressing how deeply this single video has affected me. Ken Burns unique ability to capture and impart their dual struggle is an experience neither male nor female should deny themselves. Coming from different backgrounds, education and social classes these women united in one common cause to change the future of all women which continues to this very day. It cannot be recommended highly enough.

I saw this several years ago on PBS and it has been haunting me ever since. I am buying the DVD so that all my female friends, especially my young nieces must see this. This story was not told in our history classes. We simply heard the year that women got the right to vote. This is a story of the true dedication and sacrifice these women made for us. OUTSTANDING STORY OF TWO WOMEN WITH COURAGE AND DETERMINATION TO OVERCOME UNJUST DOMINATION BY MEN THAT WAS FORGED IN OUR NATIONAL MYTHS AND INSTITUTIONS. I HAD TO STOP MY ORDER AT FOUR COPIES BECAUSE IF I SENT A COPY TO ALL THE WOMEN I LOVE AND RESPECT, ID HAVE GONE BROKE.

I havent seen this video on dvd but when I saw it originally I was very moved. These women fought and struggled so hard for something that should have been a given. I was moved to tears by their story.

Admired the stamina and perserverance of these women

I reenacted the part of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and a friend did Susan B. Anthony at our General Federation of Womens Club meeting and the local Historical Society several years ago, so I particularly enjoyed seeing this DVD. Hope to share its viewing with some other friends. Johnstown, N.Y. is a few miles from us and my husband and I looked up some of the sites there at the time.

Again no closed captioning! I wish this was accessible for everyone. This is a thorough and fascinating story of the unlikely friendship of two extraordinary women. Most people dont even recognize Elizabeth Cady Stantons name but this film does her justice. She was the greatest intellect in the suffragette movement in America. You will learn much about Susan B. Anthony and her contributions as well.

PBS PLEASE show this again for Womens History month in March. You have not for the last few years and I am so disappointed. Years ago I bought the video and several books for friends and family. I showed the video twice a year and saw it myself 9 times. It made me cry every time and all the other women cried too. (So has the comments in these reviews because I know they also get it) This documentary changed my life and made me a complete Ken Burns fan. This will blow you all away, answer many questions about life in this world as a women, make you angry but most of all, make you so extremely proud. I am about to order this again on DVD so I can share it with my daughter, sisters and nieces. It will be my 10th time seeing it and I know will not be my last.
