A story of surprise and revelation. Martin Dohrn, a veteran wildlife filmmaker and a bee enthusiast, embarked on a special challenge during the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020: to film all the bees he could find in his tiny urban garden in Bristol, England. By the end of the summer, he became bee obsessed and developed relationships with some individuals.

Dohrn saw more than 60 species of bees that come in all shapes and sizes, from Britain's largest bumblebees to scissor bees, which are the size of a mosquito. Most people think of bees as honeybees, but the majority of bees are "wild" bees who make their homes in tunnels underground or holes carved from wood, and most are single mothers with their tiny broods hidden in a nest. This documentary will enlighten viewers about the incredible diversity of bees and of the mini dramas playing out in our own backyards.

My garden of a thousand bees
Review by Nancy52 on 07/07/22 review stating My garden of a thousand bees
This was the most unbelievable film documentary of the individual bees living in his English garden. Due to his special filmmaking skills and slow motion photog he actually named some of the bees and followed their individual lives and habits. Unbelievable!!!

Incredible Film
Review by S A. on 06/01/22 review stating Incredible Film
I saw this film when it first was shown on PBS several months ago. Then it was on again 2 weeks ago and I watched it a second time. It is a beautifully made film, and the message is timely. Since my 8th grade students ( Im a science teacher) just did a Gizmo lab called HoneyBee Hives, this was the perfect follow-up to that. My students LOVED it, as I did. Showing on Friday the 13th - one never quite knows the reception any assignment/film will get. These kids can be pretty unpredictable. But this film fully held their attention, right to the last minute. I love being a vessel for good science programing. Thank You!

This was an absolute masterpiece. The narrator develops a surprising relationship with Nicky. I was in tears at the end -- happy tears.

Truly amazing to see so much cinematic skill turned upon such tiny bees
Review by Agapostemon on 05/23/22 review stating Truly amazing to see so much cinematic skill turned upon such tiny bees
Our wild, solitary bees dont get nearly enough attention, which makes it wonderful to see them being appreciated. Some of the footage is mind-blowing! I hope this video get you looking for bees in your own backyard. Though it was filmed in England, you might see some very similar bees yourself.
