NOVA: The Bible's Buried Secrets: Archaeology's New Theories DVD

People make a mistake to expect to find literal truth in scripture, but this program explains connections that scientific and historical investigation has established to place the biblical narrative in a new context. This program taught me, graduate student in biblical studies, as well as would effectively engage my public high school students.

This is a subject on which so much has been written and debated. This show provides the up to date knowledge in a concise and engaging manner.

This beautifully filmed documentary dates a hymn beloved by our family, The Lord Bless You And Keep You, to a prayer at least as old as the 7th century b.c. I look forward to hearing more results as the archaeological dig of the city walls of Jerusalem progresses.

Really easy to understand something that has seemed complicated to me for years. Quite literally a reference tool for me to use in future.

I just watched the documentary. Although its research and assertions were more fair than many that deal with ancient origins of religion, this is not saying much. What this show failed to do like others was present a more balanced view of ancient Egypt and its actual beliefs of religion. Although the modern egyptological view that ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Greece to name a few worshipped many Gods, is promoted like it is itself the gospel truth, there are many who disagree with this notion altogether. These lands did not worship many Gods. They believed in the concept of One God and Ancient Egypt/Kemet developed the concept originally. The believed that this One God manifests in everything we see, touch, taste, feel and hear. Everything to them was/is a manifestation of this One God. There are many who share this view. Joseph Cambell and Dr. Muata Ashby are two of them. So the documentary was biased as it attempted to give the benefit of the doubt to the Isralites as being the originators of the One God principle when in fact the only evidence if any to substantiate this was circumstantial at best.

In keeping with PBS / MPT impartial programming it is only fitting that you give equal time to the thorough study by Josh McDowell The New Evidence that demands a verdict and or other views. Otherwise you stand to loose PBS contributers from the Jewish and Christian Communities. In my view this program is another hoax in archiology based on wild imagination and ephemeral facts.

I was impressed by the variety of scholars and researchers (international) interviewed on this program. Excellent historical/archaelogical scholarship, highly engaging and professionally created.

I love keeping up with new news regarding biblical archaeology. No better place than NOVA to get it.

Well done; a super detective story and inspiring at the same time.

While there are small lapses of information (such as Nebuchadnezzar not given as leading the Persian Army as Emperor of Persia when taking Judea)this is a fine job of explaining the Archeological evidences found up to date. Only caution is that they ARE Archeologists, and other scholars need to be used from other sources on such topics as the linguistic evidences of age and dating via languages.

Having the whole laundry list of degrees in theology and 39 years into ordained mainstream ministry, I was very much impressed with the professional integrity of this outstanding presentation. Well done Nova! And Im glad to see my PBS dollars of support well placed too!

I Just recently finished a course in Old Testament Survey and I was taken aback at how because of that class, I was able to follow this documentary as it flowed from one period of Jewish history to the next. I loved it. Thank you for showing it. I Look forward to watching it again.

The Bibles Buried Secrets is PBS Magnum Opus. The evidence-based explanation of how the Torah was developed and written is clear and compelling. This is arguably the best documentary film available. It is a must see for anyone interested in ancient history, culture and the development of religion.

I had been expecting this to also have secrets about the book of Genesis and some of the New Testiment as well, but it is nice to see who the Israelits really were really came from. That is interesting along with other the biblical secrets.intersting. The extra features are nice too. It is also nice to see the landscape and old cities too. It is also nice to see what years they took place too.
