Its been a long time since I was really glued to the TV screen. It is an unbelievable awesome sight to see all these butterflies gathered in one area! And to realize they travel so far is to get to where they are going.

A treasured DVD film to include in our library. It has also inspired our family to plant more milkweed and nectar flowers to support Monarch butterfly conservation.

spectacular
Review by Planter M. on 03/20/21 review stating spectacular
The photography in this amazing program makes you feel you are part of the migration. Every childrens science class should see this beautiful spectacle. The fact that the monarch wintering grounds in Mexico are in danger from illegal logging, that there are dangers from pesticides and hazards along the route, and that there is a lack of plants for the caterpillars to eat, should concern all of us to the possibility that the monarch migration could possibly end in our lifetimes. I believed I knew a lot about the butterflies, but seeing this added greatly to what I knew and made me wish to see it in person. The sight of millions of butterflies flying and millions of butterflies frozen in the snow could bring you to tears.

What a journey of beauty. If only humanity could work to the excellence and the essence of life that these wonderful small creatures do. One of the best presentations on any Nova programs. Cheers to all on this one.

Butterfly video flutters through the sch

I am a retired 2nd grade teacher who had a butterfly garden my last 8 yrs. We won a contest that allowed us to plant a Milky-way Garden at the Governors Mansion for Monarchs.Having taken the Monarch tour in Mexico with professors from LSU and University of Florida, this video answers a lot of my questions about the incredible flight to Mexico of the monarch and the danger to their environment. I intend to donate this butterfly video to my school because it can easily flutter through the curriculum on all levels. Art and science are easily covered. Mapping geography, math graphing, journaling with research, and protecting global habitats and environments are great lessons to develop! The most wonderful part will be the enthusiasm of the students responses!

Points to an overwhelming intelligence
Review by Hergie on 07/17/20 review stating Points to an overwhelming intelligence
Fantastic job of photography and also of looking at all sides of the conservation and preservation problem: not an easy solution but worth working toward before its too late. Their navigational system points to an overwhelmingly intelligent designer, ie GOD. One thing not really mentioned is the role of milkweed ripening with them as they make their way north. We have lost the migration in western Oregon because of weed control programs and spraying weve lost the critical numbers of milkweed populations.

I took a trip to Mexico to see the Monarchs and it was one of the best experiences of my life. This DVD shows the highlights of my trip and helped me show people how amazing the Monarchs really are. Anyone interested in experiencing this in reality should check out Expedition Travel. Thumbs up!!

Nova at its best
Review by Budman on 07/17/20 review stating Nova at its best
Most of us have some idea about the remarkable migration of this delicate insect that covers 6000 miles and four generations. Nova does its customary excellent presentation of this unparalleled story. The narration, photography and editing are fabulous. Im buying copies to give to my grandchildren in the hope it will excite their sensitivity to other living things.

I watched this with my mother on PBS last night. She is 92...we both learned a lot, and it kept our attention. It was beautiful and inspiring. I already knew a lot about the migration of monarch butterflies, but this clarified some questions that had always mystified me. See it!

Nova Missed the Mark
Review by Friend M. on 07/17/20 review stating Nova Missed the Mark
There were interludes (very few) where the music shut off, and I found myself thinking thank god! It seemed Novas sound track was designed to reveal how grand and glorious the monarchs are -- as if we viewers lack the eyes and imagination to respond for ourselves. Ive worked with monarchs for years, and was very disappointed by the intrusive music, the (sometimes) breathless musings of the narrator, and your bias toward grandiloquent photography,

Exceptional!
Review by Monarch L. on 07/17/20 review stating Exceptional!
What a sensitive, compelling account of the miracle of monarch butterfly migration and the perils these fragile, yet strong, creatures face. This is a marvelous, educational tool for anyone wishing to encourage the preservation of these amazing insects and the unbelievable, increasingly dangerous journey they face. What a tragedy if during a particularly harsh season so many perish that not enough survive with the instinct to come north! I cannot imagine our gardens here in their summer habitat without them!

Nature Lovers dont want to miss this
Review by Lucy on 07/17/20 review stating Nature Lovers dont want to miss this
Watching this on TV and now ordering the DVD brought back my wonderful memories of visiting the monarch sanctuaries in Mexico with Dr. Bill Calvert as my groups guide. The documentary is so well done. My 3rd grade students will enjoy viewing this as a follow up to our participation in the mock Monarch migrationg that we participated in through Journey North.
