ODYSSEY: The Chamber Music Society in Greece. Ancient Greece - land of Homer, Aristotle, Sophocles and Plato – is commonly described as the birthplace of the Classical tradition. Celebrating this legacy, the high-spirited, world-class musicians of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) travel to Greece, performing works that embody the essence of classical music. In iconic settings like the First Ancient Theatre of Larissa, the historic Church of Pammegiston Taxiarchon at Pelion, and the newly opened Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens, this remarkable ensemble performs works by Bach, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Debussy, Ravel, and the contemporary Greek-American composer George Tsontakis. The film also offers a sumptuous taste of Greece itself, exploring the history, mythology and ideas that have inspired classical music for centuries. It’s an Odyssey that classical music lovers won’t want to miss.
