David thinks and presents in ways that explain complicated issues in refreshingly uncomplicated ways. He brings up many important issues that I had not considered at first--that really matter.

Unlocking The Mystery
Review by Jimmy U. on 05/06/21 review stating Unlocking The Mystery
Beautiful. In this series, Dr. Eaglman asks the tough questions, challenging the viewer to hold on tight and pay attention. The filmmakers manage well to creating a marriage between the Dr.s reality and what the audience sees on the screen. I highly recommend The Brain to anyone who may be curious as to why we do what we do. In my opinion, this video should be required viewing for High School students.

Very well done by someone who knows what theyre talking about. As an educator and parent, found so much applicable information. I learned a lot about brain and behavior, and was entertained as well.

Back in the 70s I studied neuro chemistry in physiological psychology and this is a good example of how much further research has come. Skip the first half of the first session on the second disk it is just a review of the first disk.

If one has not seen this series on TV, get this DVD, or get it for reference. Our brain is our central control bureau. It is good to learn more about it with this very interesting and well presented program.

As an attorney who has tried brain injury cases, and hired some of the best neurosurgeons, neurologists and Ph.Ds in the US, I can share with you that this series will illuminate and expand you mind in an entertaining and informative way like nothing else on the market. This series explains and synthesis biology, chemistry, psychology and anthropology without ever being preachy or overly academic. Every episode will expand your understanding and awareness of your mind, your relationships with others and leave you wanting more information.

A Must-See
Review by Dadsfolk on 07/17/20 review stating A Must-See
I got a degree in Social Psychology 45 years ago, and have been privately studying social interaction, belief systems, and task-oriented team activities throughout a career in engineering and management in three industries. This series was an eye-opener. Eagleman takes us through the ways in which our development shapes the brain - its plasticity, periods of change, limitations and potential. On the way, we learn about the relationship between the brain and the senses, the mystery of consciousness, the role of emotions and habit in decision making, why social interaction is key to brain development, the brain function behind empathy (and how we reserve empathy for our tribe), and how we settle on a world model which governs our actions. The inquiring mind will be making connections throughout - the persistence of incorrect belief systems, the nature of prejudice, the power of peer pressure (particularly in the teen years), the likelihood of true artificial intelligence, and the prospect for changing the beliefs of others. It is truly a tour de force, and well worth seeing. I watched it on TV, and am buying a copy so I can review it again at leisure, extract quotes, and take the insights and questions it generates further.

Review by Knowledge H. on 07/17/20 review stating Your Brain will be better for watching this fine program
I was so amazed with the first episode that I preordered the DVD. Watching the rest of the episodes confirmed I made the right choice. The new understandings of the brain along with incredible graphic animations makes the brain so much more understandable. Parents with children will benefit from a better understanding of whats going on in their heads and why.

In The Brain, Eagleman displays tremendous skill in explaining a complex topic in such an entertaining and simple manner. As a scientist who has grappled with the task of translating research evidence to decision-makers at all levels, I am very impressed with this brilliant piece of knowledge translation.
