Tiananmen: The People Versus the Party On June 4, 1989 the world's biggest, longest, and most famous pro-democracy demonstration was brought to a tragic end. The images from those final bloody days still burn bright in our imaginations; the death toll -- from the Chinese official figure of 300 to estimates as high as 15,000 -- is still disputed. TIANANMEN: THE PEOPLE VERSUS THE PARTY tells the gripping narrative of a period of just seven weeks in which the whole future of China today was founded, and where at various crucial turning points the final outcome could have avoided massive bloodshed.

With never-before-seen Chinese television archival materials and exclusive interviews with key insiders, from protest leaders and students to government insiders, eyewitness accounts in TIANANMEN: THE PEOPLE VERSUS THE PARTY finally reveal the scale of the 1989 protest, its aims, its military crackdown, and the aftermath.

I have read many books about China including ones about the student movements and Tiananmen Square and when I watched this I learned everything that happened in detail. It is more than an outstanding DVD for those who want to see the whole story as it unfolds!

excellent documentary! The best!
Review by Generation T. on 07/12/21 review stating excellent documentary! The best!
As a participant who went through that tumultuous and desperate night/dawn, I was nervous to watch as I was afraid of peeling the deep scar on my heart. But I felt obligated to watch as a witness. While watching it, I was nodding, weeping, and finally, I could not help crying. Really appreciated this documentary. In my opinion, this is the best of the kind that reviewed the background, development, facts, as well as objective perspectives of the movement and the tragic ending. For those who are not familiar with this piece of history, I strongly recommend this documentary as THE introduction. Named and unnamed victims of the massacre dont disappear. They live in my heart.
