NOVA: Polar Extremes Join renowned paleontologist Kirk Johnson on an epic adventure through time at the polar extremes of our planet. Following a trail of strange fossils found in all the wrong places--beech trees in Antarctica, hippo-like mammals in the Arctic--Johnson uncovers the bizarre history of the poles, from miles-high ice sheets to warm polar forests teeming with life. What caused such dramatic changes at the ends of the Earth? And what controls the dial on Earth's thermostat? Today, the Arctic is warming faster than anywhere else in the world, and Antarctica has locked in its ice enough water to raise sea level by a terrifying 200 feet. The way that the poles respond to a warming climate is one of the greatest wildcards in predicting our climate future. Johnson uses Earth's history, written in stone, as a cipher to decode what is going on at our polar extremes today, and what the future may hold.

An AMAZING tour of the worlds ice, and engaging story of how the carbon footprint of humans is changing our world in unprecedented ways. Kirk Johnson is delightful. The explanation of the carbon cycle is eye-opening. Incredible views of natures beauty.

GOBAL WARMING BY US IS A QUANTIFIABLE EFFECT AND MEASURED.
Review by Grouchy on 07/17/20 review stating GOBAL WARMING BY US IS A QUANTIFIABLE EFFECT AND MEASURED.
This is a scary movie. Make no mistake about it. Towards the end the evidence condenses coming into clear focus. There is a LINE TO CROSS that if we dont approach carefully and with steadfast determination THERE WILL BE NO RETURN TO TODAY AS WE NO IT, and tomorrow looks to scary to want to be there. If you think todays diseases are frightening, what do you think a HOT world will be. What scary/dangerous life forms will inhabit every inch of a hot steamy jungle like world in competition with you?
