Am I the only longstanding Van Der Valk fan to be disappointed by the PBS adaptation of Nicholas Freelings brilliant series of novels featuring the Amsterdam-based inspector? Since I seem to be in the minority here, perhaps I should try to give the update another chance try to view it on its own merits, keeping in mind that we live in a very different world from post-WW II Europe. Yes, the screenwriters are entitled to their own interpretation of character motive, but its hard to ignore the little voice in my head reminding me that the original was so much better!

If I had $39.99, I would order three sets of Mark Van Der Warrens Masterpiece Mystery epic Van der Valk and Team do Amster......Damn, its good...I would keep one for myself, and watch over an over again, while sending the other two sets to two friends, with advise that after they had seen it over and over several times, they send it on to at least two other entities.....I would try to cover the entire USA, West of the Mississippi (including Alaska) with this magnificent work. Its not my fault if they hog it all for themselves......Good work, good Job, Creators.....!!!!

The black detective is the best thing about this series set in in one of my favorite cities. Why? (a) because he reminds me of me. I cant wait for the next season. Three episodes simply is not enough. Ive already watch it twice...just in case I missed something. I did.
