NOVA: Nazi Attack on America

Long before 9/11, a far deadlier, little-known attack from the ocean depths struck our shores, lasting three-and-a-half years and claiming 5,000 lives. Now, famed undersea explorer Bob Ballard, discoverer of the Titanic, investigates the wreck of one of the attack craft, a German submarine that lies at the bottom of the gulf just a few miles off New Orleans. U-166 was part of Operation Drumbeat, a highly successful U-boat operation that caught East Coast cities and shipping almost completely unprepared. With state-of-the-art survey gear, Ballard probes the wreck and unravels a dramatic mystery in the official story of the sub's sinking.

Fascinating!

A gripping account of the damage U-boats created in WWII, and the fate of one boat in particular. FINALLY the doubts about the claims of the sinking of this U-boat are put to rest, through the use of technology. An excellent history lesson, told with terrific explanations and enough suspense and historical footage to keep you fascinated.

The shock of this one....

I was totally mesmerized. If I hadnt seen the sub and the process of getting the whole thing together by digital photos, I never would have believed it. For me, the clearing of the name of the commander who felt he had sunk U-boat 166 made this hour-long venture too short indeed. If it is repeated, dont fail to watch! Or, even better, purchase the DVD. You wont be sorry!!!!

Attack on America DVD
Review by Karen A. on 01/19/21 review stating Attack on America DVD
I had a conversation with my 94 year old Grandmother. She mentioned the threat of the German on America during World War II. She mentioned them attacking on the East Coast. So when I was looking at DVDs to buy, I saw this one. Up until the conversation and watching the video, I had no idea how close the Germans were to striking American land. The video was very informative. I am glad that there are people who study history and are willing to explore. Then share their information with PBS so that people like myself can learn about different things. Especially different events that are not necessarily covered in History classes or lectures.
