La Fayette the Lost Hero
Review by Yybalt on 05/16/22 review stating La Fayette the Lost Hero
A tastefully done biopic which reestablishes La Fayette pivotal role at many historical moments of History both in the US and France. His prophetic words about slavery and the world role that the United States were to play in future times are particularly timely in our day of cynicism and self doubt. Particularly moving is his relationship to Washington, to the former slave Banneker and to his dear and heroic wife Adrienne. Well done and informative. Recommended for students of all ages.

Lost Hero is No Exaggeration
Review by Jon E. on 05/16/22 review stating Lost Hero is No Exaggeration
Lafayette played a critical role in the American Revolution. He became a vital trusted aide of George Washington, as well as a crucial go-between to represent the American cause to the court of Louis XVI. His principled beliefs played less well amid the violent passions of the French Revolution. This video is entertaining, fast-moving and interesting enough for historical dilettantes, yet with enough subtlety and detail to interest viewers with a deeper level of knowledge.

This is a revealing history of a great hero who has been forgotten. Every American should view this and be reminded of the debt the United States owes to Lafayette, our first real ally and true visionary who helped shape the modern world.

Lafayette:
Review by Carol K. on 07/17/20 review stating Lafayette:
This program aired again around the holidays in 2013 and I enjoyed it immensely. Wish there were more like this for TV viewing. PBS always does a great job with their historical content, unlike some networks that use way too much computer generated scenes that dont really tell the true story or end up confusing the issues. Well done.

THE PAST MIRRORS OUR FUTURE
Review by Sandy 5. on 07/17/20 review stating THE PAST MIRRORS OUR FUTURE
Lafayette was a man way before his time and had a deep appreciation and love of what America could become, even before we knew it ourselves. This should be taught and shared in American History Classes.

The information of Lafayettes life is wonderfully presented. I showed it to teenagers and they said they liked it a lot. The narration kept their interest and later they remembered that he his wife married very young and other facts. I highly recommend this DVD.

Great research, wonderful scene shots, and fascinating history. The U.S. should honor this man much more than it does. We owe him a lot.

Well done and long overdue

Very nice presentation of an American hero. His glowing optimism devotion to the cause of freedom for all still shines bright in a dark world. He will surely never be forgotten! The story of his wifes devotion and the stay in the austrian prison is very touching. Thanks to all who contributed to making this documentary and bringing it to PBS.
