The Klondike Gold Rush

Renowned as the richest gold strike in North American mining history, the Klondike Gold Rush (1896-1899) set off a stampede of over 100,000 people on a colossal journey from Alaska to the gold fields of Canada's Yukon Territory. Filled with the frontier spirit, prospectors came and gave rise to what was one of the largest cities in Canada at that time - Dawson City. The boomtown, which became known as ""the Paris of the North"", earned the reputation as a place where lives could be revolutionized.

Brought to life with excerpts from the celebrated book The Klondike Stampede - published in 1900 by Harper's Weekly correspondent Tappan Adney - and featuring interviews with award-winning author Charlotte Gray, and historians Terrence Cole and Michael Gates, The Klondike Gold Rush is an incredible story of determination, luck, fortune, and loss. In the end, it isn't all about the gold, but rather the journey to the Klondike itself.

It tells my grandfathers tale
Review by Lillylu on 07/17/20 review stating It tells my grandfathers tale
This is a great overview of the Stampeders to Alaska and the Yukon. My grandfather went up in 1896 and came back alive, rich enough and full of tales for his entire life. He hiked the Chilcoot and the White Pass trails, both, and even after hearing him tell the tales, I didnt really realize just how arduous it was and how few came back with even their lives. Quite a story! I wish there were ore pictures of the times he was there in this film, though and pictures of same places today.

great grandaughter of a stampeder
Review by Alamoaa on 07/17/20 review stating great grandaughter of a stampeder
I thouroughly enjoyed this production. Being the granddaughter and great grandaughter of Stampeders with photo album in hand I watched this program and discovered additional info in the history of the Stampeders and discovered my family that went took the second trip up and took the cheap route. But they made it and I was raised in the home that was purchased with Yukon gold that came from a facinating portion of history. I also know my grandmother was 3 mo. pregnant with my mother when she went up in Oct of 1914. Mother was born there. This helped fill in gaps to my research and I appreciate it very much. Thanks for this production that I am going to purchase as well.

Excellent rendition of the KlondikeStory
Review by Pokey on 07/17/20 review stating Excellent rendition of the KlondikeStory
I have just finished watching this incredible story. I live in Whitehorse ,Yukon and have lived here for almost 35 years. I am familiar with this history of the stampede to the forbidden north in the search for a dream come true. This documentary really hits home about how this came to be.It is filled with rare photos and how no expense was spared when it came to indulgences that went along with this wealth (even in this remote part of the world). Also, a cool story of a woman who is in search of the fate of her long lost great uncle who came here in his early 20s never to return home again.
