Latino Americans is the first major documentary series for television to chronicle the rich and varied history and experiences of Latinos, who have for the past 500-plus years helped shape what is today the United States and have become, with more than 50 million people, the largest minority group in the U.S.

The series chronicles Latinos in the United States from the 1500's to present day. It is a story of people, politics, and culture, intersecting with much that is central to the history of the United States while also going to places where standard U.S. histories do not tend to tread. Latino Americans relies on historical accounts and personal experiences to vividly tell the stories of early settlement, conquest and immigration; of tradition and reinvention; and of anguish and celebration, from the millions of people who come to the U.S. from Mexico, Spain, Puerto Rico, and countries in Central and South America.

Latino Americans is driven by the human dramas of individuals' struggles and triumphs, successes and disappointments, featuring interviews with close to 100 Latinos from the worlds of politics, business, military, academia, literature, and pop culture, as well as deeply personal portraits of Latinos who lived through key chapters in American history. LATINO AMERICANS is the story of the gradual construction of a new American identity that connects and empowers millions of people today.

Review by Rr on 07/27/22 review stating A very interesting documentary
Latino Americans is an interesting documentary because it not only gives a vast knowledge on historical records, but goes beyond by exposing the Latino Americans sentiment. It is full of personal experiences where ideas, feelings, and different perceptions are shared. I used it as an educational tool and projected it on campus(October- Hispanic Heritage Month) and it was a success. Now, everyone is asking me where to get a copy of the documentary.

As part of the curriculum team reviewing the series for countless hours and to finally see the finished product was a healing ,affirming and an educational experience.Nonetheless we as a country still have a long way to go when dealing with racism and discrimination against latinos in the USA. The feedback I get from my non Latino colleagues is that the series will inform their instruction in the classroom. Commentary is filled with accolades and they are astounded of how little they know of who we are as a people. They are looking forward to the next episodes. As I, I cant see it enough.

Finally PBS brings the real Latino history of this country! After watching a few episodes, I feel so proud to be a Latino in the USA. The facts are painful; the stakes are huge. It is time for everyone to know the real, uncovered truth with the hope that one day Latino history will be taught in schools throughout the Union. Thank You for this narration of immense historical value!

One of the best documentaries
Review by La M. on 07/27/22 review stating One of the best documentaries
ITs one of the best documentaries Ive seen on tv. Benjamin Bratt narrating this documentary made it feel more at home from a Latino stand point. I really enjoyed the interviews by given indidviduals who witness such ignornace by others and/or were victims of such negative acts and their involvment with these historical events. Their testomies were not only heart felt but inspriational that will resonate through the ages. I cant wait to buy this DVD and share it with my friends and family. Thank you for creating this documentary and hope to see more on not only on LAtinos but other cultures who have stuggle(d) in this country past and present in this country. Again, thank you.

I am proud of my mothers role and involvement in this poignant video series. Maria del Carmen Gurrola has always taught her children to be proud of our Mexican heritage; and to always be a loyal and good American! I am proud of you mamasita.

History Not Spoken
Review by M L. on 07/27/22 review stating History Not Spoken
I know that this video is filmed from the perspectives of Latin Americans, therefore, I gave it a perfect rating. Who better to teach us about their culture. It was an emotional depiction--for me--of the abuses and triumphs of the Latin culture. I know that my students will learn a lot from viewing this because where else will they obtain this information. I highly recommend this purchase for any class where the truth should be taught.

Review by Cal on 07/17/20 review stating A Must see video!
This video is one of a few I have seen that proves the only illegal aliens in this country are white! It is about time that Americans see the truth in American history from the standpoint of Latinos, and I think the contents of this video should be taught in American history in public schools.

My Roots
Review by Nana review stating My Roots
I am 72 years old and have always been interested in our history. I have been researching my roots and sure enough we go back to the early 1600s in what is now the beautiful state of New Mexico. I have always been very proud of my Hispanic ancestry. I was glued to the tv watching this documentary of our people and I can say its about time the truth be told. American history has completely put us on the back burner because they didnt want the truth out. Its about time all children learn hispanic history in the classroom. October is Hispanic month and Im tired of seeing nothing but dancing and tacos to celebrate our culture, we have so much more to offer.

Great Run Concerning all Immigrants
Review by The T. review stating Great Run Concerning all Immigrants
I have seen previous documentaries which mentioned and in some cases pictured the great latinos that are featured in this series. The G.I Forum and its founder were mentioned many time prior to this. However, it seems that much more information about the immigration of the Cubans, Puerto Ricans and many other people from South American lends a beautiful mixture and color to the story about immigration and the total abuse that so called Americans doled out to the new immigrants, even though we definitely needed the immigrants (and still do need them.) The story entitled The Ugly American is easily seen by what we see and hear about the treatment received by people who had to come to the US in order to continue existing, and the ugliness of the Americans that were already onsite. We need more togetherness among the Latinos, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans and other South Americans. However, we have a tendency to fight each other rather than assist.
