The Agent Orange catastrophe did not end with the Vietnam War. Today, the world over, a primary chemical of the toxic defoliant controls weeds in farming, forestry, parks, playgrounds… It wreaks havoc on the human genome, causing deformed births and deadly cancers. After decades of struggle and tragic personal losses, two heroic women are leading a worldwide movement to hold the manufacturers of Agent Orange accountable. In France, Tran To Nga is suing the American chemical industry for poisoning her family in Vietnam. In America, Carol Van Strum exposes the continuing use of toxic herbicides. Incriminating documents disappear. Activists are threatened. A helicopter technician secretly films the contamination of reservoirs, while a massive industrial cover-up goes on.

The People vs Agent Orange
Review by Debra F. on 04/02/22 review stating The People vs Agent Orange
Film makers Alan Adelson and Kate Taverna have captured the foundation of our nations use of Agent Orange not only on the war torn countries of SE Asia (VIetnam, Laos, and Cambodia) but the corporate decisions to knowingly spray agent orange on National and State forests in the United States. This decision was made after Congress voted to discontinue use of agent orange in Vietnam as it was toxic and causing great harms! Veterans and families of veterans were also harmed as were food crops, waterways, and the people of those countries. Two women sprayed and harmed by Agent Orange, share their stories in compelling ways in this film; Madame Tran To Nga, Vietnamese/French citizen in her youth sprayed and ingesting toxins in food and water, her childrens health damages and the death of her first born daughter. Carol Van Strum of Oregon has spent her life fighting the casual use of toxic chemicals being sprayed in blends from front yards to remote timber covered lands. Film makers take us to selfie videos documenting current timber practices that blanket bare clear cut lands with combinations of toxins that have never been evaluated for safety in these mixtures, and talk about the local activists who continue the fight to ban aerial spraying of biocides. It is important to see this film as uncomfortable as it can feel, so that we humans can learn from our mistakes and make better choices going forward. Do yourself and the world a favor and watch this film to learn more about this history and current practices, and how you might join those who advocate to rid our communities, lands, water and air of toxins. Be inspired!
