Not what I remember

I remember viewing the series originally on PBS when it ran in the 70s and I believe there are cuts in this edition from the original broadcast, which I am not happy about. I know there were controversial scenes that were edited for the American market but I would have preferred the version which ran on the BBC in the UK. Film quality is OK, but hoping for better digitization.

I, Claudius

Saw it when it first aired in the 70s, and it made me a lifetime PBS supporter. This BC Roman soap opera is mostly historically accurate and shows the ancient Romans to be cunning, sardonic and often cruel, but somehow a young Claudius makes it through the dangerous labyrinth of his own familys ambitions to become emperor himself.

Expect No Special Effects

This is a very good series originally broadcast on PBS in the late 1970s. My children (all in their 30s) dont especially like it because they say it looks like someone just [merely] filmed a play. Which is essentially true. But I dont require an explosion, a car crash and mass death every thirty seconds to enjoy a story. The diabolical plot is what I watch I, Claudius for. Thus, I like it just fine.

A masterpiece

I remember when I Claudius aired on our local pbs channel. I was young but was captivated. Now it's on my dvd shelf so I can enjoy it anytime. Thanks PBS

Drama at its best!

I first enjoyed this mini-series on PBS over thirty years ago and enjoyed it tremendously at that time. I finally decided that I needed to add this series to my library and re-live this splendid performance again at my leisure.

Watched it when it first aired, and it has lost none of its patina over the years. The bonus footage added more depth. Very glad I bought it.
