The social order in the 1950s: class, religion and race.
Review by Linda A. on 02/08/21 review stating The social order in the 1950s: class, religion and race.
As an American, I find this series an eye-opener on Australias recent history. I find it disturbing that not a single synopsis of the series mentions the open and ugly anti=Semitism, especially in the self=proclaimed civilized upper class, that drives the story. Considering that the protagonist, Sara, is a convert to Judaism in a Christian world, there is plenty of material to digest. Both class conflict and ethnic discrimination seem easier to discuss.
