Dick Proenneke retired at age 50 in 1967 and decided to build his own cabin on the shore of Twin Lakes. The first summer he scouted for the best cabin site, and cut and peeled the logs he would need for his cabin. Dick Proenneke returned the next summer to finish the cabin where he lived for over 30 years. Dick filmed his adventures, and Bob Swerer later turned the film into a video so we can all watch this amazing man build his cabin by hand.

This is the most amazing dvd! This man is a inspiration. What he accomplishes, with his bare hands, in the Alaskan wilderness, is simply incredible. And all filmed with his own cameras. I highly recommend this. I am going to buy the sequel.

I just love this guy He is my Hero!!! He went to a better life!!! No Slavery for this guy!! He built this place all by him self!! With no crooks to over charge and no banks to keep him a Slave!! He is the example of true FREEDOM!!! I have so much respect for Dick Proenneke In his career of survival vs. a career ownership of slavery!! If I didnt have asthma I would have been gone following in his foot steps, I love him!! He only took what he needed!! Not taking more then what he needed for profit, leaving the land the way it is!! The way God intended!! He is the true Hero!!!! He didnt have to kill people out of ignorance!!!! He is my Hero, the only one of his kind !!!
