American Experience: Remember the Alamo DVD

This is an important contribution for anyone learning about Texas history, as it is from the perspective of the Tejanos or Hispanic population whose ancestors established themselves in Spanish Texas in the 1700s. The central character is Don Jose Antonio Navarro: courageous leader, friend of Stephen Austin, and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. My 2nd great-grandmothers brother died in the Battle of the Alamo...My only criticisms of this program are (1)The title is somewhat ambiguous, as it conjures the vengeful battle cry of those who defeated Santa Anna at San Jacinto. (2)I wished they had mentioned that the less-than-200 men inside the Alamo held off a force of 4,000 for 12 days. Viewing this version, you might think the defeat happened much more quickly. (3)Although it was said briefly that other Texas defenders died later at the hands of the Mexican army, I think they should have named the Goliad massacre by name. All of these events occurred within a few months, in 1836.

We are taught tradiotionally the Mexicans were the bad Guys/ It seems that this was a land grab to enhance the profits of slavery more than anything else.

Enlightening and well produced.

Bought the DVD, thinking it might give more insite to the battle of the Alamo. The DVD talks about everything before and after the Alamo, but very little about the Alamo itself. The DVD is 60 minutes long, only 8 minutes is in reference to the 13 days of battle at the Alamo. The rest is just filler.
