NOVA: Einstein's Quantum Riddle Over the past century, scientists have made huge strides in understanding the mind-bending rules that govern the microworld of atoms and subatomic particles. But these rules, called quantum mechanics, contain one particularly bizarre, unexplained phenomenon: quantum entanglement. Imagine two subatomic particles that mirror changes in each other instantaneously over any distance - apparently without communicating. Einstein called it "spooky action at a distance" and although no one can explain how it works, scientists have already begun to harness its power. So-called quantum computing could give rise to computers that can shatter existing data encryption in minutes - and use the laws of physics to create a totally secure, unhackable network. But even as researchers are poised to transform the digital world with entanglement, a few doubts about it remain, and to rule them out will take a ground-breaking experiment. NOVA takes you to a frigid mountaintop in the Canary Islands where physicists will use massive telescopes to catch light from quasars at opposite ends of the universe to control detectors in a record-breaking experiment that might settle the remaining questions once and for all.

Science is always evolving; fascinating hour!

Reminds us that proof of concept often takes extended periods of time to develop. This is an exciting and exhilarating feature. I recommend it for use in educational programs.

If you ever wanted to become more familiar with quantum physics (with a great start in quantum entanglement) this is a wonderful video to watch. I enjoyed it very much.

The explanations of quantum entanglement are superb!
Review by Wsquared on 12/18/20 review stating The explanations of quantum entanglement are superb!
It could be used as an introduction to quantum entanglement at all levels of Quantum Mechanics. The simplest explanations are always the best and easiest to remember and these are the best. Having taught Quantum Mechanics at the upper division and graduate level as well as QED I would recommend all students to view this video.

Tiny is mighty and cosmos is everything.
Review by Lenette L. on 12/18/20 review stating Tiny is mighty and cosmos is everything.
I watched this on Nova at home and was so excited about this knowledge that I ordered the DVD the next day. What appeared to be spooky or supernatural occurrences to Einstein is actually a manifestation of reality (nature) that has been scientifically documented. The results, implications and applications are truly exciting and connected to everything and everyone.

No, I would not buy this DVD.
Review by Tradguy on 07/17/20 review stating No, I would not buy this DVD.
This is a reasonably good presentation of the EPR riddle, but makes a conclusion that cannot be true: That spooky action at a distance must occur. However, one can have entanglement and not have superluminal messages between particles after they are separated under a different (i.e., correct) interpretation of quantum mechanics. Such an interpretation was provided by Richard Feynman but is never considered in the show. I would not recommend to a friend because it concludes that QM violates the special theory of relativity.
