NATURE: Octopus: Making Contact Octopus intelligence is well documented. They are able to navigate complex mazes, use tools, learn from each other, solve all kinds of puzzles and may even be able to dream! Octopus behavior has gone viral on the internet, showcasing their escape artistry with their ability to body morph and use camouflage. What is new in the world of octopus research is the extent to which these intelligent animals are individual personalities - able to recognize faces and interact with other individuals - all of which is an odd adaptation for an animal thought to live an asocial existence. NATURE follows this new science through the story of an octopus named "Heidi" and her evolving relationship with a passionate marine biologist and his teenage daughter. Professor David Scheel of the Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage links his discoveries to octopus findings from all over the world and explores how we and a creature so different from us could have so much in common.

I ordered weeks before christmas-still waiting on it. Every order from PBS is problematic, things dont arrive, shipping cost is ridiculous. Every time I say I wont order ever again from PBS, this time may be it!

This is a great documentary because it not only provides information about octopuses but it also shows how the family interacts with their octopus. Strongly recommended!

Affectionate Octopus
Review by Grace on 05/16/22 review stating Affectionate Octopus
AMAZING! I first saw this documentary on PBS. I had to get a copy to ensure my grandchildren learned of the sophisticated brain of an octopus. I can certainly see why people keep this animal as a pet. They do make one want to treat them as affectionately as one does a dog or cat.

Fantastic movie
Review by Ruth on 01/16/22 review stating Fantastic movie
This movie about the relationship between the Scheel Family and Heidi, the visiting Octopus, solidifies the truth that we are all very much connected. Humans that think they are better or smarter or feel more than other creatures on this planet are arrogant. One can only feel sorry for those humans that are so self centered and focused on their self importance. Heidi reminds us that we are all in this together. Beautiful, with startling realizations, well filmed and a lovely piece.
