NOVA: Building Chernobyl's Mega Tomb In 1986, in the heart of the Ukraine, the Chernobyl nuclear reactor exploded, releasing 400 times more radiation than the Hiroshima Bomb. It was the world's worst nuclear disaster. Thirty workers died. 50,000 people fled the nearest city. And radioactive fallout made an area larger than Long Island a no-go zone. Hastily, a so-called ""sarcophagus"" was built to contain the radioactive materials that lingered at the site after the explosion. But thirty years later, the sarcophagus is crumbling, and another disaster at Chernobyl looms.

Now, an international team of engineers is racing the clock to assemble one of the most ambitious superstructures ever built… an extraordinary 40,000 ton, 1.5 billion dollar mega dome to entomb the crumbling remains of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor. Battling arctic winter weather - and lethal radiation - this is the inside story of the epic race to build Chernobyl's MegaTomb.

OMG! OMG! OMG! (he screamed while jumping up and down)
Review by Nick on 07/17/20 review stating OMG! OMG! OMG! (he screamed while jumping up and down)
How in the world did I not know about any of this before watching this program? Right now as I type this it is taking just about every ounce of self control I can possibly muster to refrain from jumping up and down, clapping my hands and top-of-my-lungs screaming, OMG! OMG! OMG! in a shrill, ear-piercing shriek exactly like a delighted young boy who just received a twelfth birthday gift of a Lamborghini, and Im talking about an actual, road-ready, fire-breathing LAMBORGHINI, along with his very own, wardrobe-challenged Victorias Secret Angel riding shotgun! Most, if not all, will agree with me that the single most overused and abused word in the English language of late is the word, awesome. (with a winking nod to Louis C.K., Im sorry but I dont care how good they just were, no Buffalo chicken wings are, were or ever will be, awesome) That having been said, this show in general and the project it documents in particular can be described without hyperbole as nothing short of awesome. This stunning program documents what I truly feel is the most spectacular, daring and imperative construction project ever conceived or attempted by mankind. This program clearly and concisely documents what is the most amazing thing Ive ever seen in my life, something I literally proclaimed aloud more than once while I was watching it. After I learned about the decades of planning and years of extremely difficult, precise and perilous work that had gone into bringing this groundbreaking endeavor to fruition, (with a cataclysmal, radiological, Damocles sword upon an ever-deteriorating thread a mere three hundred yards to their backs all the while) when things really began to move, I too was moved. To tears. And yes, I DO mean that literally. Thank you mankind! Thank you, NOVA!
