Do we control our fat, or does it control us? Through real life stories of hunter-gatherers, sumo wrestlers, and supermodels, NOVA explores the complex functions of fat and role it plays in controlling hunger, hormones, and even reproduction.

NOVA:The Truth About Fat For generations, fat has been the enemy. We’ve demonized it as a cumbersome health risk and cast overweight individuals as too gluttonous or lazy to make healthy choices. But scientists are coming to understand that fat is not so simple. In fact, it’s a fascinating and dynamic organ -- one whose size has more to do with biological processes than personal choices. Now, NOVA takes you inside the amazing world of fat. Why don’t sumo wrestlers don’t suffer from the health problems that other obese people do? Why has evolution hardwired us to hang onto fat even when it’s unhealthy? And what would happen if you had no fat at all? Through real-life stories of hunter-gatherers, supermodels, and a Biggest Loser contestant, NOVA explores the complex functions of fat and the role it plays in controlling hunger, hormones, and even reproduction.

This was a great source of new information to me. I had always thought that fat people were incredibly lazy and that there brain was at the bottom of intellectuals of everyone. Now I realize that I have been so wrong and I plan to learn even more!!!

Great Information About Fat
Review by Nickman on 05/22/22 review stating Great Information About Fat
I am 65 years old and have been very fat all my life. I am so glad that scientific explanations are starting to surface -- observations that line up with my personal experience. It took so long to move past the enormous prejudice about excess weight. It has taken the obesity epidemic and many years of failed medical approaches before real, unbiased science has started to investigate and understand. Hopefully there are real solutions coming next. This hour long Nova program is must see for everyone with obesity in the family.

Watched this on PBS when it was on, so informative!! I was skeptical when this was recommended to me based on the title of the show, but it explained a lot about how and why weight loss attempts are often unsuccessful and how your biology works against you. Highly recommend for anyone overweight or trying to lose weight and keep it off

NOVA: The Truth About Fat DVD
Review by KATHLEEN on 05/22/22 review stating NOVA: The Truth About Fat DVD
I purchased this after seeing it on PBS TV. Wonderfully scientific and understandable as well as information for the masses which should spur further research and development for what is nearly epidemic in this country. We are in the crosshairs of the very complex struggle between commerce and science which requires reason and compromise to defeat this terrible health problem.
