Part of my Family History
Review by Bibble review stating Part of my Family History
Excellent film...well done.... I had heard bits and pieces of this history as my Dad grew up in an impoverished Eastern N.C. The CCC gave him a start in life, finally he had three meals a day, was taught a good work ethics and job skills. The $30 a month provided income for a single parent with two more boys to raise back home. This film will become part of my family archives as we continue to document our family history. Thank-you PBS for continually documenting our American Experience.

Beautiful Writing meets Great History
Review by Capt S. review stating Beautiful Writing meets Great History
As a New Englander born, and yachtsman for 4 decades, I love the sea and have known the details of whaling history, the Essex, Melville etc. The beauty of this program is its perfect presentation - history, images, literature - the lore of whaling in various aspects. From whatever perspective you come to this, you will be treated to its other aspects so well done. I am stunned and grateful for this work of art..

Almost like being there again...
Review by Grateful S. review stating Almost like being there again...
I shared this great documentary with my Dad a couple weeks ago on his 96th birthday. Though his memory often fails him these days, it was obvious that watching this excellent production was very real for him, fully capturing his attention and bringing back vivid memories of The Great Depression and his own CCC experience. He laughed, he cried...he was fully engaged and told us that it was almost like being there again.
