Country Music: Live at the Ryman On March 27, 2019, acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns invited some of country music’s finest artists to gather at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium to celebrate the launch of his landmark PBS series Country Music. Burns and his longtime collaborator Dayton Duncan curated an evening of selected highlights from the series combined with performances of the music's iconic songs by some of country's finest artists. Among those performing on stage that night were Dierks Bentley, Rosanne Cash, Rodney Crowell, Rhiannon Giddens, Vince Gill, Kathy Mattea, Ketch Secor, Ricky Skaggs, Marty Stuart, Holly Williams, and Dwight Yoakam.
The result is a musical journey tracing the evolution of country music and its many branches and highlighting its foundational stars: songs from Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family to Hank Williams and Bob Wills, Loretta Lynn and Johnny Cash, from Bill Monroe and Patsy Cline to Dolly Parton and Kris Kristofferson and Merle Haggard -- and many more.
This extraordinary night was captured on camera. Through it, experience the wide range of this uniquely American music and the heartbreak and joy of its history. It’s a journey you won’t soon forget.
