James (Nicholas Ralph) finds a home at Skeldale House, with his chaotic and erratic boss Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West), Siegfried's wayward brother Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) and shrewd housekeeper Mrs. Hall (Anna Madeley), who endlessly steers the ship. For Those Who Love Animals and People!
Review by Sue S. review stating For Those Who Love Animals and People!
This is a series of the heart! Written about the 1930s, the sets and costumes are wonderful, the English countryside is breathtaking, and the story line keeps me endlessly interested and engaged. And lets not forget the animals! James encounters and treats them at a time when veterinary science is stretching its scientific legs to take it into the modern realm of animal medicine and treatment - with some of the locals looking on with skepticism. There are the usual horses, dogs, and cats, but thrown in the mix are also ferrets, turtles, parrots, and more. At the end of each show, I am left not wanting it to end! I sincerely hope that Season Four will come out soon this year so I can continue my journey with the wonderful cast of animals and actors. Bravo, Masterpiece and PBS!
Very enjoyable
Review by Mary G. review stating Very enjoyable
I've read all his books yrs ago watched the earlier Masterpiece series. This isn't totally true to the books but I enjoyed more. It is more about life relationships in the era than Veterinarian procedures. I love Mrs Hall's character - different from the books. The scenery and villages of the Dales are breathtaking. Each ending season's Christmas show are wonderful. Great entertainment for the entire family. A must see for anyone that loves animals the English countryside. Wonderful to keep or gift !!

Love the story, the actors and the scenery. The animals on the show are wonderfully trained. Watched a one hour special on CPTV about the inside workings of the show and it was so nice to see behind the scenes.
