Somewhere South In six one-hour episodes, chef and author Vivian Howard digs deeper into the lesser known roots of Southern food, Southern cooking, and Southern living. Her curiosity has made her beloved by the millions of people who watched her grow into an award-winning television host, bestselling author, and celebrated chef over five seasons of A Chef's Life.

With Somewhere South, Howard serves as both student and guide, exploring cross-cultural dishes through the professional and personal relationships she has with southerners of many backgrounds. Each episode of Somewhere South explores the connectivity of a single dish, and the ways people of different backgrounds interpret that dish while expressing the complex values, identities, and histories that make up the American South.

Somewhere South lets viewers meet their neighbors while exploring the foods that bind and define the American South -- one dish at a time.

This series is GREAT!
Review by Randall review stating This series is GREAT!
I have watched all four programs to date and everyone has been wonderful and touching. The new south is a wonder of multiculturalism and Vivian Howard is a wonderful and gracious ambassador. A brilliant idea to use food to explore the broad connections of so many people although focused on a region of the US. Really a wonderful and entertaining show!

Excited to order a copy

I just got hooked on A Chefs Life and learned a lot from Vivians honest passion for her cooking. I enjoyed the people who she brought to the show. I recently found Somewhere Sout and have been enthralled with the mass diversity of people who live there. I like the four shows that I have seen and recently made chow chow, etc. The show is a history lesson on cultural foodways. It is a crockpot full of authentic people and their love for food and culture. It would be an excellent tool for schools to use. I had heard of Clarkston, GA in a ministry magazine and have it on my places to visit. So enjoyed seeing and hearing people who live on the Sea Islands and are of the Gullah culture. Savannah and the Sea Islands are all on my list to go visit and eat my way to cultural healing.

A Unique, Authentic View of Southern Culture and Cuisine
Review by Sharon review stating A Unique, Authentic View of Southern Culture and Cuisine
As a person from the west coast and with limited experience with southern cuisine, I found both A Chefs Life and Somewhere South a rare look into southern life of the average person through their foods and how they are shared within their communities. Vivian Howard is not only a wonderful chef (Ive purchased her cook book and had great success with it) but also as a program host giving enriching insights to southern history, culture through its cuisine . Ive learned so much and look forward to more shows from Vivian.
