Masterpiece: To Walk Invisible: The Bronte Sisters

Haworth, West Yorkshire, 1845.

Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë face a life of hardship. Trapped at home with very few opportunities, they share the burden of supporting their father Patrick and their troubled brother Branwell, who has lost his way in life.

For years, the sisters have escaped into an imaginative fantasy world of stories and poems, without any hope of publication. But as their family situation worsens, Charlotte sees that writing novels could offer a way out.

Acclaimed screenwriter Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax) creates "a bleak and brilliant portrayal" (The Guardian) of the sisters' extraordinary battle for recognition, starring the ensemble cast of Finn Atkins, Charlie Murphy, Adam Nagaitis, Chloe Pirrie, and Jonathan Pryce.

"This British TV movie is a vivid re-creation of the period and beautifully explores the complexities of these driven women, each remarkably inhabited by the respective actresses." - Deseret News

"Wainwright's film is powerful and passionate, even as it contemporizes some dialogue and interactions. Color, depth, contrast and detail are standouts on this 1080p transfer from PBS Distribution. It is yards above the fuzzy broadcast, a must-see for those who love Masterpiece period dramas." - Hampton Roads

4 out of 4 stars
"…brilliantly dramatized…this is an outstanding drama that is unlike most romanticized biographical movies about authors - and is all the better for it." - Video Librarian

Wonderful intro to the Brontes publishing adventure. True and fimed n the moors and the set was built so the parsonage looked as it did when the family lived there. Acting was superb and I have watched many times.
