USS Indianapolis: The Final Chapter In July 1945, the USS Indianapolis has just delivered ""Little Boy"" - the atomic bomb destined for Hiroshima - when she is sunk by a Japanese submarine. 300 sailors go down with her, and the 900 survivors drift for four and a half days, battling the sun, thirst, sharks, and their own fear. Ultimately, only 316 of them are pulled from the sea alive. The sinking of Indianapolis remains the U.S. Navy's worst single loss of life at sea.

Indianapolis' final resting place remains a mystery for more than seven decades, until an expedition launched by philanthropist Paul G. Allen discovers the ship in August 2017, 18,000 feet below the surface of the sea.

Now the definitive story of USS Indianapolis is told as we reconstruct the ship's heroic legacy, her dramatic final moments, and the discovery of the wreck site. We also tell the story of Captain Charles Butler McVay III - the only captain in U.S. history convicted for losing his ship in wartime. His suicide in 1968 sparks a campaign by his loyal crew to clear his name - a campaign joined by the captain of a nuclear submarine, who risks his own career to right the injustice.

My father was one of the Survivors. He was the only Survivor to have married a Japanese bride. I am the only Japanese-born child of a Survivor. Yes, we were among the lucky few, some said fortunate, who grew up with a dad who made that last cruise. But he carried a terrible burden of guilt, turmoil and grief his entire life. Night terrors, sadness, anger. He never lived to see the ship found. The families of the crew watched the discovery videos and images in 2017 with extreme joy and sadness...opposing feelings normally...to a degree I never imagined possible. It caught us by surprise...there was no way to anticipate and prepare. The Vulcan Group, the Petrel, Paul Allen and Robert Kraft, were all class. They reached out to us, respected our wishes and are now part of our USS Indianapolis family. Please view this program with respect and understanding, honor and pride. 879 crewman were lost at sea. Only 14 of 316 Survivors are alive today. God bless them all.

I've met several of the former survivors, have breakfast with one of the sons, have been to 3 presentations on the Indianapolis, watched the documentary and followed it up with this DVD. If you have doubts, BUY IT for the true story.
