It may be more famous now than any time in its 1,300-year history as the setting of Downton® Abbey, but England's Highclere Castle has its own stories to tell. In its heyday, Highclere was the social epicenter of Edwardian England. See how all the inhabitants of Highclere lived, from the aristocrats who enjoyed a life of luxury to the army of servants toiling "below stairs." Also find out how the current inhabitants, Lord and Lady Carnarvon, spend their $1 million in annual upkeep funds, and what life in a fairytale castle is like today.

Two excellent reasons to own this DVD
Review by Betty on 06/16/22 review stating Two excellent reasons to own this DVD
When this program was shown on TV, we had a power outage in the middle of it, so we mied a portion of the middle. Then my daughter had a busine trip to London in April. She had an opportunity to tour Highclere and other spots used for Downton Abbey. Of course, no photos were permitted inside the castle. (Of course, one could buy a large book of pictures, but.....). And the tourists didn't meet the current occupants. So, two good reasoons to buy this DVD!

Thanks for getting this the Manners of Downton Abbey out so quick. Hoped to wrap these 2 seperately, then Downton Abbey 1-5, then Season 6. Hope to get all the series by 12/24 so that they can be opened... please. Otherwise I will have to put a note in the 2 above which I will wrap together. Its a busy time, so we would not get to watch Season 6 until after the New Year but hope to watch it with the complimentary cup of tea.

I am a huge fan of Downton Abbey and chance I have to learn something about the show or the location I take it. The Earl and Countess seemed very down to earth in their interview and very real. It was quite entertaining.

Beautiful house, fascinating history
Review by Mama L. on 07/17/20 review stating Beautiful house, fascinating history
I love the setting of Downton Abbey. The house and grounds are so beautiful. Getting to see even more of the house and to learn its amazing history is wonderful. The family has worked so hard to maintain its integrity and beauty. The property is a testimony to their dedication. I particularly loved the comment that they belonged to the house, rather than the house belonging to them. The family has a great sense of their place in the history of this home and an obvious desire to leave it intact for future generations. I highly recommend this video, although children younger than 15 might find it a little short on excitement and may lose interest.

I enjoyed the behind the scenes story of this home. I also read several books on former residents of this home. It was exciting to connect pieces of information from this video to what I had read.

Highclere Doesnt Disappoint
Review by Love H. on 07/17/20 review stating Highclere Doesnt Disappoint
Gained several new perspectives on Highclere from the production. It could have been just a rehash of the Highclere from Downton Abbey, but the interviews with the Carnarvons and several of the current staff, the shots of the land and the follies, and the shots of actual maids quarters in the tower (much less spacious than Downton Abbeys) all served to make an interesting house even more significant. Would recommend.

Great History Here Your Own Private Tour
Review by Nature D. on 07/17/20 review stating Great History Here Your Own Private Tour
I was not aware that his great grandfather discovered King Tuts tomb in the 1920s. The restoration is fantastic. Some silk wallcoverings dating back to the 1700s. Some of lifes history from this family was incorporated into the series of Downton Abby. The castle is grand from a far vista or approaching on horseback but I wish there was some type of landscape bed at the front door to welcome the guests. People are visiting it from all over the world. It is run much like Biltmore Castle in Ashville, NC to cover the huge costs. Settle back and take your own private tour...

Touring this beautiful castle was a real pleasure. The hosts and owners of the Highclere Castle were more than gracious in sharing all the history of the castle from its inception to the present day. If viewers are history buffs like I am and have enjoyed Downton Abbey, they will love this DVD. It is only around an hour in length but worth every minute!

Highclere Castle order was good.
Review by None on 07/17/20 review stating Highclere Castle order was good.
While the product and processing were good shipping was another story. Shipping time was about eight days and the package looked beat to heck. Due to good packaging, the disc was in good condition. I think this product was light enough to simply put in first class mail for fast clean service.
