Mesmerizing, Inspiring and Validating
Review by Jen B. on 02/04/21 review stating Mesmerizing, Inspiring and Validating
This two-disc set of the first two seasons of ART:21 is such a great value! As an introduction to the brilliant PBS series focusing on contemporary art, the set does its job well: viewers are immersed in the practices of over three dozen contemporary artists of extraordinary diversity, and are left wanting more. Each program is thematically organized, focusing on notions like memory or play. The episodes profile three to five artists at work, centering purely on the artists and their ideas, practices and projects. The invisibility of the interviewers and camera crew makes for an especially powerful connection between viewer and artist. This intimacy lends a down-to-earth quality to the series, helping to make art as a discipline (and artists themselves) more accessible to non-artists. Whether youre a working artist looking for inspiration and encouragement, an art lover, a curator or an educator, ART:21 seasons 1 and 2 is a must-have. In fact, you may find yourself buying all five seasons! Highly recommended.

Great series for the classroom
Review by Art T. on 07/17/20 review stating Great series for the classroom
Coverage of some of the women artists, particularly, are brief enough that a teacher can deliver and discuss information, or a student can, and then the artist comes to life through these segments. Really an experience that cannot be matched. Not that I havent loved watching some of them five times myself.
