A Must See for Elementary Students
Review by Space J. on 07/17/20 review stating A Must See for Elementary Students
If I were able to return to my days as a fifth/sixth grader, this is one wonderful program that would enrapture me. The history of NASA--from its modest beginnings, lofty goals set by President Kennedy, through the lunar landing missions--is presented with clear and marvelous archival film footage in as concise a fashion as one will find anywhere. The Mercury missions are seen here as U.S. astronauts answer the call to the Soviet launch into the great unknown of travel outside Earths atmosphere. Also presented are Project Mercurys follow-on missions in Project Gemini as man learns to rendezvous and dock with other spacecraft and experience extended missions in space--the prelude to Project Apollo and mans journey to the Moon. (Also included is the Apollo 1 tragedy in which three U.S. astronauts died during a training exercise; this event led to a new re-focus by NASA on the dangers inherent in manned spaceflight.) This is a two hour program that is so enthralling it seems much shorter in length.

Reliving an amazing accomplishment
Review by Hcf on 07/17/20 review stating Reliving an amazing accomplishment
An outstanding documentary that not only provides terrific historical footage but enables you to hear first hand from those early space heroes their thoughts and concerns. Simply a great way to relive one of mans greatest technical achievements all over again... and learn some interesting things not widely conveyed to the public at the time.

Some interesting history
Review by How T. on 07/17/20 review stating Some interesting history
There is a lot of background information in this DVD such as how the lunar landing module came to be the method of landing on the moon, as opposed to a larger vehicle. Also, the DVD highlighted the dangers of the mission, with the tragedy of the three astronauts lost in a fire in a ground test of a module loaded with pressurized oxygen and no quick exit. And it discussed the risky return of astronauts in the small vehicle after the large one malfunctioned. Although most of the material is at least 40 years old, it is good to remember the trials and diffuculties of the amazing feat of going to the moon. It is definitely a documentary on history.

Super Program but with two Flaws
Review by Fritz on 07/17/20 review stating Super Program but with two Flaws
I enjoyed watching this very much, but unfortunately there are two flaws. 1) The picture on the case shows the flag waving in the wind, which does not exist on the moon. This caused many here in the US and for example in Germany believe that the program made it never to the moon, but is a Hollywood production. These people may be ill willed or not so smart, but.... 2) Neither the case nor the sales information in this website tell whether the DVD is for Region 1 USA etc or Region 0 (Zero) everywhere. Only Amazon writes in the detail description that it is for Region 0. Thus I am not sure if it is a good gift for a friend in Japan.

Intriguing look at how we put humans on
Review by Dalmation on 07/17/20 review stating Intriguing look at how we put humans on
This program is an excellent look at our manned space program and lunar landings, and what humans in space can achieve. The astroanuats were able to make decisions that no computers could have . There is risk in any human endeavour, but what can be gained for the advancement of humanity is worth their bravery. America should be proud of the our astronauts and what NASA was allowed to achieve.

I remember when I was 10 years old I saw the first men on the moon. I always remember that moment. I always wanted to have a video or a picture about that precious moment of my childhood memory. And now I have a DVD about the man on the moon I can treasure it to years to come. Thanks, Wilma Guzman
