Genius by Stephen Hawking DVD

5AM, tv was on, I woke up to pbs Stehen Hawkins very interesting life story. Now I want to buy it for my family . Kudos to his first and second wives for sticking with him so he could accomplish this amazing true story. My husband who had a remarkable mind helping growers grow a bigger crop of cranberries, because of his own formular that was put into the soil, put a lot of smiles on many farmers faces.

I just love this videoEUR_EUR_cant exactly call it a program, but the presentations are fantasticEUR_EUR_a clear and clever way of presenting some of the most difficult scientific ideas so that those of us just normal folks really get a true understanding about the world around us, and the marvels of discoveriesEUR_.and some of the most difficult scientific theories EUR_.I would recommend this to everyone that has any sense of curiosity at all ! I was completely enthralled by the second and third episodes. I missed the first,so I am ordering the series so I can view it and share this fantastic series. I like hands-on science and this provides the needed examples to explain pretty mind-blowing concepts. I thought the experiments were really captivating. The previous reviewer who thinks Hawking is presenting his world view is full of hot air. This is based on mathematics and physics which are not viewpoints. Dont let this review steer you wrong. If you like science concepts presented in an easy-to-understand format but still want to be blown away this is for you.

Dr Hawkings remarkable perceptions about the human condition, ie how, where,why we live are here rendered accessible with Genius, his 6 theatrical experiments with ordinary students of somewhat above average intelligence: Each committee of three is challenged to sort out the implications of various devices supplied in mysterious contexts, which the students solve to produce insights regarding how where why we live here on earth that go far beyond conventional traditional wisdom into the realms of cutting edge physics. All this is presented in remarkably accessible laymans terms - no PhD required. A wonderful achievement!

As an educator at the doctorate level I recommend this to the schools, to any young person interested in science. I plan to but it for my genius sons !

Yes, I enjoyed the Genius series and learned a lot from watching it broadcast on TV, but I expected PBS to do a much better presentation/packaging of the DVD. The box arrives with two DVDs in a standard DVD container with exterior graphics sheet, and the back of the case notes Approx. 360 minutes on 2 discs... but no place is there a table of contents: What are the titles of the programs (three of the six are mentioned at the end of the paragraph-long blurb; and, no, those three programs are not listed in the order they are presented). For the record (and to save others the time hunting up the titles of the programs), there are six programs: Episode 1: Can We Time Travel? Episode 2: Are We Alone? Episode 3: Why Are We Here? Episode 4: Where Did the Universe Come From? Episode 5: What Are We? Episode 6: Where Are We? If PBS didnt want to go to the bother and expense of providing an enclosed informational booklet, they could have at least provided a single sheet listing the contents of the two DVDs along with a short one- or two-sentence description of each program. I would have expected better from PBS.

This amazing series made me understand what I never could before, in such an innovative and fun way. What an amazing teacher is Stephen Hawking, to say the least.

I am pre ordering this because I cant wait to watch it again.

This series was more about Hawkings worldview than actual science. It had its good moments but should not be considered an educational series because of its subjective nature.
