Making Black America: Through the Grapevine is a four-part series hosted by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., that chronicles the vast social networks and organizations created by and for Black people -beyond the reach of the "White gaze."

The series recounts the establishment of the Prince Hall Masons in 1775 through the formation of all-Black towns and business districts, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, destinations for leisure, and the social media phenomenon of Black Twitter. Professor Gates sits with noted scholars, politicians, cultural leaders, and old friends to discuss this world behind the color line and what it looks like today. Making Black America takes viewers into an extraordinary world that showcases Black people's ability to collectively prosper, defy white supremacy and define Blackness in ways that transformed America itself.

This video series should be shown in every school in America. It shows Blacks/African Americans life in this country in its complexities and brilliance. It is not framed from our relationship with whites. It is about how we lived, loved and prospered and survived. It contains rare footage I never thought could exist. All people, especially White people should see this to change the narrative people have running in their head about black people and how we lived. We lived with respect, dignity, ingenuity, self-determination, hard work, faith in God and grace just as other communities have done the same. Our story is told through brilliant and knowledgeable historians who provide important information , insight and context. Getting rid of the dogma, stereotypes and misinformation should help bring the races together. I can't understand why this video is such a secret. Thank you Dr Gates.
